Accepted a job in Lexington Virginia today. Will be the first time I move out of my hometown - Not a little move either. 15 hours away. What is it like there?

virginia is for lovers...however they recently passed a law that says it is illegal to french kiss someone younger than 13...so pedophilia is out

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23541454/

RICHMOND, Va. - Virginia state legislators passed a law Saturday that would require adults who French kiss a child younger than 13 to register as a sex offender.

Those convicted of tongue-kissing a child would be guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a $2,500 fine. The House of Delegates passed the legislation 96-1 and the Senate 39-0.

The bill now heads to Gov. Timothy M. Kaine, who said he supports the legislation.

Yikes.
Hope you like young military college kids. Talk about out in the middle of nowhere.
Absolutely nothing there but VMI and W&L.

I grew up in Blacksburg. Loved it growing up. If you're a city person, you'll get bored real fast, but if you like the outdoors, VA is perfect. Some places of interest to visit: Monticello, Natural Bridge, Williamsburg(for sure, and go to Bush Gardens), Dixie Caverns, anywhere on the Applachain camping, Blue Ridge Parkway, Cascades, it goes on and on.
You're also not too far from VA Beach, MD, and DC.
Im sure it wont be too bad.

I hate to hijack a thread, but what about the Richmond area?

The wife and I are heading down there next week to visit for a few days and get a feel for the area.

Depends on where in Richmond you're looking and how old you are.

The wife and I are late thirties, early forties......2 very young children, looking in Hanover, Chesterfield and maybe the Glen Allen area.

All I know about Virginia is that it is easy to get lost, it is really cold in March, and Quantico has many woods and rivers...but the people are real friendly....

I lived in No. Va. for 20 years before I relocated to Wilm. Can't offer any insight on Lexington. Good luck with the relocation bro!

X2

NoVa *can* be a nice place to live in certain areas, some times of the year.

The rest of VA can still be "you'll pry my gun from my cold, dead hands" country. After all, VA is still south of the Mason-Dixon last time I checked :)

The whole state has a lot of nature and very beautiful. But I lived there for 6 years (NoVa) and am pretty much done with it.

I live in chesterfield, grew up in Blacksburg. Lexington is horse country, small town. If you like the outdoors and small towns it is a great place to live.

Donnie, where do you live now? If schools are important to you I would probably look at either Chesterfield or Henrico. Richmond has changed a lot over the last 15 years. 15 years ago it was a very "closed" community:now most people that live around Richmond are not from Richmond. With my business I could live any where in the country, but I have a 10 and 8 year old and feel it is the right place for them to grow up.

Nah more like three, champ.

1. Northern Va - probably the most progressive part of the state

2. Hampton Roads area - 2nd most progressive and with the military and the schools out there you're going to have a lot of out of towner's there and therefore gives it a different flavor. Doesn't hurt that Va Beach is out there

3. Richmond and the rest of the state - man I call this place home but it has to be theeee most pretentious city in the country. They are basically on that old country "I ain't letting this Confederacy go" garbage and if you was to say that the inhabitants are about 5-10 years behind the times you would be right.

Thanks for the info fellas, although maybe I would have been better off not asking. It definitely isn't making my move any more desirable especially since I'll be giving up everything I love to move there. Oh well, 8 months I'll just become the degenerate gambler that I know I can be! I know one thing, I will be back to posting plays for B-ball season. This job will look great on a resume and although they didn't promise me a job when I get back they said it is highly likely.
