Last night's Lakers-Celtics NBA Finals Game Two earned a 10.2 overnight Nielsen rating, up 47.8% from the comparable 6.9 for last year's Spurs-Cavaliers Game Two. The game earned a 25.5 in L.A. and a 22.5 in Boston (THE DAILY).

I see negotiations with ESPN and ABC in Sterns very near future.

The matchup they all wanted and they are going to make millions because of it.

They got to be careful, don't want to end up like NBC with Notre Dame.

millions, try near billion. remember, you have people watching the finals all over the world. huge viewership in europe, china which has 300 million nba fans, and south america. stern doesn't even really need american viewership, the product is the most watched out of the 3 major sports. the american ratings could be as bad as hockeys, but espn and abc would still pony up for global rights.

they keep pulling shit like they did last night and no one will be watching.
NBA needs to get away from the home court dominance, it's not good for the sport.

agreed, the officiating was disgusting last night and it really has become an unwatchable product. Asians love the product because of Yao, but adding Kobe and KG to the mix really bolstered the interest of the league over there.

i initially thought that to, but yao doesn't even have a top 5 jersey over there. i don't think its that great of a leap to say the chinese know as much or more about the nba then americans.

spurs-pistons series had an average viewership of 115 million a game.

the chinese also make a conscious effort to broadcast regular season games, not even with yao in them, so you have a great point there that they're more knowledgeable of the game than we give them credit for.

I remember having to watch the games on their station (CCTV) because i didn't have league pass, and their analysts broke down almost every player in each quarter.
