Never mind the wife he left behind, I am more concerned about the POW's he has conviently forgotten in Nam....in his refusal even at the insistance of their families to investigate into their whereabouts....of course most of the heroin that came into the country during the 70's vis a vis the Golden Triangle...may prove to be a conflict of interest if the U.S. agressively pursued a real investigation....

Your professor is correct that a major component of the US involvement in Southeast Asia from late 1950s until mid 1970s was to assure continued control over the world opium market.
In the subsequent quarter century, the primary production point for opium poppies has shifted to southwest Asia - thus the US interest in having military control over Afghanistan.
I'll await our invasion of India. With half the worlds opium production and your theories...it must be a slam dunk. :toast:
