Who will end up with the most career homers?

Manny +???
JR.......... -???

There is no doubt that I make JR. the favorite at this time.

My first very quick reaction is.........

Manny +158
JR -168

I think this is more of a bet about whether Manny will stay healthy or not and whether his hitting reflexes will fade in the coming years. He is 36 and still pounding the ball. Griffey appears to be on his last legs and I would not be surprised if he retired very soon. Manny is an oddball to a lot of people but know this. This guy absolutely loves baseball. I think they will have to drag him off the field and get a restraining order to keep him out of the park. I think you have a good line there. Give me a small piece of the +158...

How is it not A-Rod? Everyone put their dislike for the guy to the side.

He has more career HR's than Manny and he's 32 years old. Manny is 36. In four years A-Rod will have around 700 home runs. At the same age he'll have 200 more homer's than Manny.

By the time it's all said and done A-Rod will hold the RBI and HR records and he'll have around 3500-3800 hits. That is absolutely amazing. He might have as many MVP's as well.

Manny wasn't a better hitter than Frank Thomas in Frank's prime and he isn't a better hitter than A-Rod. He is top 5 of the last 25 years but number 1? I disagree but it's just my opinion.

Going on career numbers, AROD will fare better than Manny by the fact he started his career earlier, but this cannot be held against AROD, he earned that right.

Having said that, and this has been debated numerous times here already, I believe Manny to be the better overall hitter, both in terms of power and average. If not mistaken, Mannys batting average is about 15 pts higher than Arods and he also has a better HR ratio per at-bat. Needless to say, Manny has also been proven to be a better clutch hitter over his career, most noticablly in the postseason. In terms of just hitting, Manny is the better hitter in my opinion, by a narrow margin. In 2-3 years, if he continues on his current pace, I will give the nod to Pujols for being a better righthanded than both Arod and Manny..........all three are obviously three of the best that have ever hit a baseball from the right side.

However, my only inquiry in this thread is simply who will finish with the most career homers between Manny and JR, or more specifically, what you would make the line on this prop.

To stray a bit--but not too far--off track from the original post, as a Braves fan I'm always amazed at how little attention Chipper Jones gets in discussions like these that inevitably occur. If he played his career in NY or BOS or LA instead of Atlanta, he would be deified as much as these guys, if not more.

It seems to always be..."best hitter, Manny or A-Rod?" with Pujols sometimes (although not this year) thrown into the discussion. Granted, Chipper is a much lesser fielder than A Rod (but much better than Manny), and he may not have the home-run power that either of those guys have, but I would argue that over the past couple/few years he has been the best all-around hitter in baseball. Just take a look at the stats:

Code:
2006	avg	obp	slg
Manny	321	439	619
A Rod	290	392	523
Chipper	324	409	596

2007
Manny	296	388	493
A Rod	314	422	645
Chipper	337	425	604

2008
Manny	302	386	552
A Rod	317	394	591
Chipper	420	504	680

I would argue he's had better years than both of these guys every year with the possible exception of 2006 when Manny seriously out-powered him. Granted he's got an injury problem, but when he's playing, can you really argue with the stats?

Interesting as the Reds will look to move Jr now. He could extend his career five more years as a DH. I give Griffey a 50/50 chance to reach 700 in this case. Manny is not slowing down at all, but if Ortiz is out for the majority of the season, teams will pitch around him. I can see Manny reaching 650.

Oh, 600 HR's is the new 500.

Manny has a higher career average, OBP, walks, RBI, doubles, OPS+ and slugging %, there is more to a great hitter than hitting bombs. All of that is in only 63 more career games. Arod has hit .320+ twice, Ramirez 6 times. Having said that, Poo Holes is probably better than both and the best of the lot.

Precisely echos my opinion that Manny is ever so slightly a better hitter than Arod..........although Arod will have higher number totals when its all said and done due to his longer playing career............. and as stated, this is taking nothing away from Arod, as he was good enough and/or had the breaks to play at a younger age than Manny in the majors.

Manny is a .313 lifetime hitter, which has dropped a few points recently.

Manny has been an absolute mammoth clutch hitter throughout his career, regular season and in the postseason. His postseason performance enhances his performance when he is compared to Arod, who has failed misearably in the postseason.
