This is unheard of-Saturday night, two smallish(F1-F2) tornados raked through western Omaha at 2:20 in the morning), and tonight, they've been pounding the Lincoln-Omaha area (and much further NE & SW) for about the last 3-4 hours.

There will be some massive flooding(actually there already was, but this is going to really kick it in the ass). It's just getting started for Iowa & winding down for all but the very SE corner of Neb now.

A friend of mine literally had one of the Sat pm storms go within 1-2 blocks of his house(if not over). His neighborhood is an absolute mess.

If Royalfan isn't in Vegas at the WSOP, he should have one hell of a story-from Sat pm & tonight(Hey Royal, if you are out of town & want someone to check out your place, fire me an email. I have a couple good friends very close to your joint.)

It has been a crazy night for sure here in Sioux City. It is only 40 miles from where the main tornado hit tonight. There have been a whole bunch of sightings within a 60 mile radius from here tonight. I sure hope the death toll does not rise.

Damn, I lived in Iowa for 25 yrs and still have family and friends there. The river in my college town and home town is expected to peak at 23 feet over flood level at 1:00 am and could wipe out the whole downtown. WTF is going on? Better get on the phone.

Cedar Falls, I'll bet... They are getting crunched big time.

Yep, went to UNI but grew up in Cedar Rapids. Just read that Cedar Rapids has imposed a curfew and police are walking the downtown as the streets fill with water. Not to mention those tornadic storms are in Western Iowa and moving east. It looks like it could rain for the next three days. Scary stuff.

Tornado kills four at Iowa boy scout camp

http://www.reuters.com/article/wtMostRead/idUSN1130684820080612

DES MOINES, Iowa (Reuters) - Four people were killed and at least 20 injured when a tornado tore through an Iowa boy scout camp on Wednesday, where dozens of scouts were gathered for a summer retreat, state officials said.
The deadly twister was one of more than 30 that roared through four U.S. Midwestern states on Wednesday. It hit the Little Sioux Scout Ranch in western Iowa about 5:35 p.m. EDT. More tornadoes were feared for the region Wednesday night.
Ninety-three campers and 25 adults were attending the Little Sioux camp when the tornado struck, said Tina Potthoff, spokeswoman for the Iowa Emergency Operations Center. Potthoff said in addition to the four dead, at least 20 and possibly up to 40 people were injured.
Injured campers were taken to five area hospitals as parents of campers gathered Wednesday night in a nearby church awaiting news and search and rescue teams continued to sift through debris at the camp.
Iowa officials said the state National Guard had been mobilized to assist in search and rescue operations, work that was complicated by the heavily treed area where the camp was located and continued lightning strikes and heavy rain.
The scouts had been attending an annual "Pohuk Pride" weeklong junior leader training event at the 1,800-acre ranch, which has four cabin shelters, a 15-acre lake, a rifle range and six hiking trails.
"We are profoundly saddened ... our heart goes out to all of the families and the children affected by this horrific tragedy," said Gov. Chet Culver.
At least two tornado warnings were issued for the Little Sioux area before the twister struck. State officials said they did not know if there were any warning sirens operating at the camp, however.

The scary part is the tornado season is just beginning, this could be a long season.

On a side note(that doesn't compare to deaths), is it appears at least 20% of Iowas corn crop will not be planted this year, which will result in even higher food prices for this country.

???

Stated it didn't compare to deaths and not "invisioning profits in futures".........just stating that the massive flooding in the state associated with the tornados will dramatically decrease this years corn crop.

Having liteally hundreds and hundreds of family and friends in Iowa, my intent is hardly to downplay the disaster of these tornados or those in the past or future.

The majority of my family and friends are also corn farmers and will be adversely affected by these storms in many ways.

Understood, just judging from your other posts it struck me as a profit windfall for corn and ethanol futures.

I'm sure you have many more family members affected and apologize if I took it the wrong way. Just struck me that way at the time.

I know we both pray for the best of all the people affected.

ps- no profit motive whatsoever in any way, shape, or form. In fact, headed back to Iowa for 8-9 days in 2-3 weeks, so not only will be surveying the damage, but will be doing whatever I can to help any family, friends, or others in need.

Good luck and God Bless.
Hope I didn't offend with knee-jerk reaction here.

I know my extended in-laws in Wisconsin right now are on pins and needles with the flooding and dams breaking and hope the best for everyone's plight here.

Never a problem with you.........

Yes, the Wisconsin Dells apparrently got hammerred...........that is a great, great area.

Just hope the rains and tornados diminish in the coming weeks, as this is getting to the point of a national disaster area on many levels throughout much of the midwest.

Living in Florida, Im also afraid this is going to be a nasty hurricane season, as this has been the most humid climate ive experienced since moving here, and that with little rain.

:sad3:
