Yikes 2 more airlines charging to check a bag

American, US Airways, United

$15 each way 1st bag, $25 for second

US Air will be charging $2 for a soda now and beer/wine up to $7 from 5

all these fees are hidden, they dont tell you when you book. should make for a mess at the airport with people who dont travel much getting hit by this and making a stink.

its beyond nickel and diming, its a lot. a family of 4 with say 6 bags total would pay $220 in bag fees R/T.

here's my answer........

only decent American airline anymore. 2 bags for free still, they havnt declared war on their customers like their competition

Thanks for the update.

I'm needing to book airfare to Vegas for RxBash and to Costa Rica in the fall. This is useful, though SWA does not fly to CR.

Try JetBlue to Vegas. Frontier Air flies to Costa Rica. They have the TV's in the back of the seats too. TTinCO flew them last December.

The hidden stuff sucks. Airlines will fail bigtime, not that they were doing well.

Soon pilots will fall victim to gas prices, so you know how to fly a jet... so what , nobody flies anymore ! Welcome to Wal-mart employment.

Here's what you can do to really piss off the airlines and make it so that ridiculous bag charge won't last. Carry everything you own onto the plane. If you can get your kitchen sink out of your house, bring that thing onto the plane too. The more shit that people bring onto the plane, the longer it will take to board and unboard the plane. Storage will also become an issue. It will become such a huge hassle for the flight attendants that the bag charge will disappear.

Or they charge for carryon bags, or limit you to a purse.

Just charge what you have to charge, and one checked bag.

It doesn't much matter.... nobody will be flying anyway.

dougs right they will adjust to whatever you try to throw at them. It will come down to the simple jo's not being able to afford to fly anywhere soon.

The primary reason airline business has dropped in past couple years is that people are simply fed up with the tedious and absurd "security" restrictions put in place during late 2001 through about 2006 (when the "anti-shampoo bottles" edict came down).

The airlines need to collectively exert pressure on the FAA to rescind these bogus and unneeded impediments to sensible air travel.

certainly limits exist for carry-on bags, and this will encourage excessive carry on baggage, but like I said nobody will be flying.... better hope you don't build new airplanes for a living, the used ones will be like BTJ's Toyota Tundra.
