I haven't seen a dissapearing act like that since John Starks game 7 fiasco back in 1994 against the Rockets where the SG went 2-18, of course Kobe wasn't that bad (6-19) But then again Starks wasn't MVP of the league an known as the "Best player on the Planet..." either.

Kobe finally had his chance to silence the critics, and show why people call him #1 ... well tonight he looked more like #2 ( as in what I just got done wiping my ass for..) 24 point leads at home are suppose to be held on too, are suppose to be given W's, supposed to be series tied 2-2 type of games. They are the type of situations where MVPs are supposed to put their team in cruise control. But Mr. Bryant was looking more he was M.I.A. then the M.V.P. Now he has his team in a 3-1 hole, the same guy that said 2 weeks ago against the Spurs that he can "Turn it on at will" Well, the only thing Kobe turned on tonight was the bright realization of his only title without Shaq being turned off ....

No team has ever recovered from being down 3-1 in the finals, well maybe Kobe still has a shot to do the impossible, but tonight he had a shot to bring a championship to L.A. a possiblity, to take a page from Wade against the Mavs two years ago, or from the 1977 Blazers or 69' Celtics (The previous 3 teams who have rallied from being down 2-0 in finals) And when LA was dominating in the early 3rd +I'm sure most of you like me were thinking the same, this is the year where Kobe is truly defined as one of the best ever- where he finally is able to pull a Jordanesqe finals and will the wins for his team from his sheer determination and superior skills. Sure he has scoring titles and plenty of hard ware on his mantle, not to mention 3 rings of the highest calibre sitting in his jewerly box. But that finger candy was won under the thumb of one big man, one future H.o.Famer, one Shaquile Oneal who has a title without his arrogant sidekick under his mega sized belt himself.

In the end, after the Lakers pissed away their lead, I believe it was 88-83 at that point with about a minute left, and the camera flashed to the MVP and he looked rejected and defeated. A full minute remained on the clock and he looked like he was already preparing his post game podium speech. He also looked confused, a look I never saw from Jordan in the finals, or Bird or Magic even though they won and lost in the big show. But Kobe looked broken ...

Lebron looked broken last year in the finals against the Spurs, but Lebron was 22 and was in his first. This is Kobes 5th Finals and all though he has 3 more wins than Lebron, he's about to have 1 more loss also.

Kobe shouldn't be worried about James passing him anytime soon...unless the Cavs trade him to a contender...Don't think Kobe loses any sleep over this...that's just the way of today's NBA players....

Ah Contrair ...

I think Kobe does have a restless and sleepless night tonight, even though he gets to sleep at home. And thats just why .... Sleeping at home should directly follow- winning a game on your home court, but tonight it didn't.

In game 4 against Boston- Lebron had a tight game in the forth, he responded with a game ending dunk over KG and Posey to seal the deal... Kobes 4th quarter looked more like Dunking Donuts end of the night 50% off sale- stale and overated.

Tell me, if Michael Jordan has a 20+ point lead at home in a must win situation, if he loses? Thanks for clearing up the debate Kobe.

If I could be like MIKE.

the song version for the thread ....

(kobe before the game)

I heat up, I drain down town
I get my game grooving
Round and Round
Up and Down and down town I go
When my point total stops, nobody knows

(at halftime winning 58-40)

Every time Coach call my name
I feel like I can win the game
win the game, be the Man
If Kobe Cant do it, nobody can

(preview to after the loss)

Abra abra cadabra ...
I don't know what the fukk happened
I'm Down 3-1 , son of a gun
How the fukk did this shit happen ...?

(In bed thinking after game, and no he cannot sleep)

I am great, like number 23
I was even the MVP
Favored in... this series
All I had to do,... is just be Me ...

Abra-abra-cadabra
I want to replay the last quarter
Abra-abra-cadabra
4th ring a no, I guess it don't matter

(2nd half)

Every time you called my name
I passed the ball or missed my play
Passed the ball to my teamate chumps
They put me , into the dumps

I cooled down, and I couldn't heat up
I blew this game like a first class chump
Big time schmuck and choke artist is me
They have to win just one, and us win three

Abra abra cadabra, I thought we did have it
Abra abra cadabra, now its time to panic

I'll play it cool, I'll probably win us game 5, but going back to bean town ... its time for demise .. Look at my stats, it wasn't my fault ... I might even blame it on the refferees calls

ESPN Marc Stein:

So it likewise seems safe to suggest that Bryant, as ring-laden as L.A.'s future would appear with Andrew Bynum due back next season to help Odom and Pau Gasol on the front line, won't be subjected to those nagging Michael Jordan comparisons for a while. With six losses in his past seven Finals games, Kobe is on the brink of a second successive five-game exit in the championship round.
Something you won't find on MJ's résumé, obviously.

Barring any major injuries I would make LA the favorite to win the next 3-4 finals of Kobe's prime.

Without any major trade for other teams LA lineup will be improved the most next season when they add a solid post defender... and move Gasol to PF where he can fawk off on D and be guarded by a less talented player…

If Bynum becomes the player that most think he can I do not see LA losing in the near future...

I will save my Jordan comparison until after his career is over.

Hopefully this will end the ridiculous comparisons between Kobe and MJ. Kobe will never be on the same level as MJ.

people say missing bynum is big. what about a lack of point guard. farmar is at best a backup guard at the moment. fish is a shooting guard.maybe grab a guard in the offseason, trade one of the key bench guys, maybe both farmar and vujacic for a vet.

I think they are fine at PG. Farmar will get better this was only his second year and Fisher is ok. I would not move Sasha V as he was one of the most improved players on the team and is only 24 himself.

LA just has no one that can sit in the lane block shots, defend and rebound. If you have Bynum in there you don't have to double KG or Duncan. Doubling these guys down low opened up many shots on the perimeter. Plus there is less chance of a layup drills when you have someone who actually can defend the post.

I think if anything they trade Odom for a small forward. I can't see 3 7fts playing at the same time… They will need a shooter at the 3 that can also slash... Odom plays to close to the basket and will be a log jam with Bynum and Gasol…

It was a great run by a young team who got beat by a better team. Hats off to the Celtics...

Bulls won their titles without a true solid point guard. You don't need an above average player in every position, you simply adjust your game to it.
