It seems if you bet on the overnight reduced vig baseball lines, then you can't use those bets to make if bets off of.

You could if you take the non-reduced vig.

Any good reason for that ? I'd think the book would want to let you be able to bet again. I don't often if bet, just trying to explore the option.

Could you do an if bet on say Pittsburgh at 7PM if your original game you bet started at 7PM too or no? Never have done if bets but always wondered about this.

I'm not an expert on if bets, learning myself, but I think you could take a 10pm game, and say if that wins, bet this on the 7pm game, as long as its bet before 7pm.

Yes, that is correct. Also, you are right, you can't do if bets on props and special lines or reduced vig.

what's the logic behind not allowing the If off of a special line ?

Because the whole point is to give you reduced juice on a small set of games/items. If they made it open to IF bets or parlays, you would be effectively leveraging those better lines to other games, too - i.e. the payout on those bets, using reduced juice lines and 1 normal line, would pay more (if you bet the same amount) than using 2 regular lines.

but doesn't a bet imply that the book has an edge, makes a profit, and wants more bets ?

If I bet the Redsox on the 5 cent lines, then later at full vig ( 10 cent lines) decided that I wanted to bet NYY if Boston won ( on an if bet), why refuse it ?

Because with no if bet option you are going to pay the 10 cent line instead of the 5 cent line if you want the if bet. Personally, I rarely bet overnight lines in baseball.

I think i am 0-10 this season on overnights. Wait, I did win one game and that was in a losing 2 team parlay. So, 1-10.

It depends if you can call the moves. I often offer on Matchbook O/N at not very good odds to the taker, lines I could actually instantly scalp at 5D ( stuff I lean to) some gets taken, then I can re-position myself at MB closer to gametime.

You sure Doug? I "if bet" quite often, and my book's software won't allow me to "if bet" on a game that starts before your "original" (or "parent") bet.

It's okay though if both games start at the very same time.

But for instance if I wagered on tonight's Cubs-Jays game that was scheduled for 7:07 pm, I could not run an if bet off of that for the Pirates - Orioles game that was scheduled 2 minutes earlier at 7:05.

"If betting" is actually a useful money management tool. It allows you to continue betting on later games IF you're hot, but stops you in your tracks if you're running cold that day.

Prevents you from chasing (if you're disciplined enough).

very few books stop you from making if bets because of start time i mean think about it why stop a guy from making a 4pm bet then let him if a 1pm bet?

i think VIP family of books stop you but i know the greek,jam,5dimes you can make an if bet on 8pm game then have an if bet bet on a 1pm game earlier in the day it doesnt matter

Well you are exactly right, it is VIP that I am speaking of.
And I agree with you, it really shouldn't matter.
