MLB Match-Up Saturday – Jays host surging Cubs

The Chicago Cubs are currently battling the Boston Red Sox for the best record in baseball, and they have done it with the second-best offense in the major leagues. The Cubs will take their high-powered show on the road on Saturday afternoon, as they visit the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Center in interleague action.

Chicago Cubs at Toronto Blue Jays – 1:07 PM ET
Jason Marquis (4-3, 4.54) has won his last three decisions, avoiding the loss column since May 13th. The 29-year-old righthander tossed a three-hitter over 6 1/3 innings to lead the Cubs to a 3-1 win at Los Angeles, striking out two and walking one. Marquis is looking for his fifth straight year of double-digit victories, and he is well on his way if he can keep his control issues in check, as sometimes he tends to walk a lot of hitters. The last time Marquis faced the Blue Jays was with St. Louis in 2005, and he was knocked for five hits on eight hits over five innings as the Cardinals fell 5-2 in Toronto.

Roy Halladay (8-5, 3.07) is on a roll, as the 2003 Cy Young winner has reeled off five consecutive wins, which continued in his last start even though he did not have his best stuff. Halladay gave up four runs on eight hits over 7 2/3 innings as the Blue Jays edged Baltimore 5-4 at home, with “Doc” striking out seven Orioles. Halladay is in the top five in no less than six pitching categories in the American League, leading the way in innings pitched and complete games. The 31-year-old dropped the decision in his last meeting with the Cubs, as he allowed a pair of runs on seven hits over seven innings in a 2-0 loss in Chicago.

The Blue Jays took two of three in that series, but the offense let Halladay down in the finale, which has been a running theme over his career in Toronto. Halladay will have his hands full with the Chicago bats, but he is one of the few pitchers in all of baseball that can raise his level to match the opposition. Take the Blue Jays to snatch the opening game of this series with a close win on Saturday.

Even with one of the best in the league going today, I just dont see the Cubs losing 2 in a row. Also there is absolutely no value in taking the Jays unless you do the run-line which is not necessarily a bad option. I am taking the Cubs at (over +150) in this one however. GO CUBS!!!!!!11
