Hold the phones..

How do the Yankees let hm go to the new contender on the block in their division without making a effort to land him?

Matsui can play left and so can Griffey left while the other DH's. That gives the Yanks an outfield/DH combo of Damon, Abreu, Matsui and Griffey, with AROD, Jeter, Cano, Giambi and Posada mixed in the rest of the lineup. Get the fvck out of here with that lineup.

Seeing how money is no object in New York it makes no sense to not sign Griffey before the up and coming DRays do.

Griffey doesn't fit in the Red Sox scheme unless they want to deal Ellsbury for some top notch bullpen help. Highly unlikely to happen.

From Rotoworld:

SI.com's Jon Heyman says Ken Griffey Jr. is telling friends he's monitoring the Rays as a possible destination should the Reds decide to deal him.

Always be skeptical whenever the phrase "telling friends" is used. If the Rays are still over .500 after the break and the Yankees have yet to catch fire, then they might as well use some of their excess young talent (Jeff Niemann, John Jaso, Chris Mason, James Houser) to try to add some talent. However, assuming that the goal is to win, not to bring in a few thousand more fans, then Griffey shouldn't be at the top of their list. He simply hasn't been a very good regular this season, and he'd be facing a whole new set of pitchers if traded to the AL.

The trade won't happen until the All-Star game. He wants to play in NYC for the All-Star game. Reds should ask fans to vote for other players ahead of Griffey, so they can make the trade now.

Im guessing GOMES would be in the deal.

Im telling you right now, the Rays may give up more than they shoud, as they have some very good young players.

This should be interesting, and also will boost the pathetic attendance in Tampa if it occurs.

This will be a great addition. Can he deal with hitting 6th?

Iwamura, Craw, Upton, Pena, Evan, and Griff

To much potential power to bat him that low..........but making a lineup with those six is rather difficult.

Considering how Pena has struggled this year, I would probably flip-flop Griffey and Pena in your above example.

I'm skeptical of the DRays making a significant deal for a LH bat, even one as balanced as Junior.

As for Gomes, if and when any deal is made for a more stable, established RF, look for Gomes to be released unless the deal made is with an AL club.

No National League team of which I'm aware is in the market for a plodding, poor defense .230 hitting OF

that's a bad combination no matter which way you flip them. end of a tight game, bring in the lefty when those 2 come up to the plate. more often than not.......game over. heard somewhere today that p fielder is on the block. fielder turned down a long term contract w/the brewers cause scott boras is his agent. trade pena for fielder? i'm not even sure that fielder is better than pena. but if the rays want to try to win now, that's not a bad trade.

DH would be crowded. Giambi should DH frequently as well.

I think his presence would be worth it imo. Veteren leadership like him.Hes one of the best and DH would give him another 3-4 years.
