why an early start to playoff?

So let me get this straight...the U.S. Open on Saturday and Sunday had the leaders finish up around 6 p.m. (PST) or 8 p.m. CST and 9 p.m. EST.
Why wouldn't they have a 2 or 3 p.m. start for the playoff, so it concludes in primetime tonight? There's no NBA. It would be a ratings smash on the East Coast and Midwest.
Granted, everyone assumes Woods will win easy, but what if Mediate makes this go down to the wire.
Now with a 9 a.m. PST start, no one that has a job will see it, unless you're a Cubs fan and are unemployed, as Lee Elia pointed out.
We know TV runs all sports, so how did ABC/ESPN miss out on this?

Probably because a 18hole playoff without Woods would have been a ratings disaster, and the schedules had to be planned in advance.

Still, it's prime time in Europe :p

they are not gonna make 2 guys sit around all morning waiting to play.

for it to be on in primetime , they would have to wait to tee off until 3 in the afternoon .

people have lives . the volunteers , the staff at the usga , the other staff at nbc and espn.

get it over with .

cant wait for another 4 hours of " the knee " ...

hope rocco wins...
