IS this the easiest US Open conditions ever?

Disgusting that the USGA didnt grow penal rough inside of the 3rd cut. Especially with the fairways as wide as I can remember at an open and fairways that dont slope.

Good call on Mickelson over Tiger, and good call on Tiger winning easily yesterday too.

Just giving you a hard time, calm down. I've tailed a decent amount of your winners in the past. If you were half as good as you think you are, though, we'd all be rich.

Honestly, Tiger was the square pick for the tourney. His errant lucky lies and putter won it in the end. Good showing from Rocco.

-1 wins after 91 holes. The USGA always tries to set it up so even par wins. This is as close as you can get. Perfect setup.

Lucky lies? You mean like the first hole in sudden death where he shanked it 30 yards up into the stands and was allowed to drop back just off the fair way and still have a great look at up and down for par? Oh wait, that was Rocco.

Tiger hit 3 errant drives where the lies were matted down grass and pulled off 2 eagles and a birdie during round 3. Just saying he was lucky to have made it to a Monday round. Props to Tiger, he made amazing shots into the green when he had to.

Any body live near Merion in Philly? I saw it on the list of upcoming US Open sites, but I remember the course being awfully short (~6400 yds). Did they somehow lengthen it?

You are correct that Merion is only 6800 or so yards (the East Course). Here is an exerpt from Wikipedia.

(Following David Graham's win at the U.S. Open at Merion in 1981, it was felt by many that the relatively short course (about 6400 yards), small course area (which limits gallery size), and lack of grounds to hold corporate tents would preclude Merion from holding a major again. However, following some land acquisition nearby and lengthening of the course to 6,846 yards, many of these concerns appeared to be addressed. After successfully holding the 2005 U.S. Amateur, the USGA awarded the 2013 U.S. Open to Merion.)

And just like with Torrey Pines, they will build new tee boxes and lengthen it out some. It's amazing (and scary) what the USGA can do to a course with a huge budget and the world's best course designers.

Rail,

How much did you lose betting against Tiger this weekend?

I've played Merion - it is short as Journey's pole - the fairways are narrower than a stripper's bush - they grow the ruff thicker than a 70's stripper - you literally cannot hit the ball out of the ruff - it is nothing but a shot makers course - I didn't care for it - it's just one of those old historic courses relying on tradition
