Disney has the television rights to the Finals(as well as the US OPEN golf).

The series has recieved good ratings thus far, and a game 7 between the Lakers and Celtics will be monumental and thus will occur if the Lakers win tonight.

The advantage is I may not need the Lakers to win at all to profit from this trade, as I've liked DIS at these entry levels for the past two days and finally snared a piece of them at 33.14 with the limit order placed with two hours remaining in the trading day(it was excuted with less than 10 minutes remaining in the trading day). Make no mistake about it though, one of my main reasons was hoping/thinking that we will see a game seven, as this will definetly be a boost for this stock and I'm not joking.

Better yet, even if the Lakers lose, I will be at the watering hole lighting up my cigar in honor of the CELTS raising another banner and thus putting more distance between them and the dreaded FAKERS in the who has the most championship banner department.

Enjoy the game Rxers!!!

on the flip side, if game 7 happens, I don't think that will auto-translate into profits for Disney stocks.

Either way, hard to go wrong with disney.....just think game 6 doesn't mean that much to the shares.

I dont care anymore. If they lose I'm throwing all my green hats and celtics apparel into a fire. I figure this is the best way to dispose of them since the dumpster diver guy will find them and be like "I got hatz LOLZ!"

They should have won game 5.

Anyways, good luck to us. I too would like to go to the watering hole but I am too nervous to be around people and plus that stupid chic from Guatemala is like the worst bartender ever.

I DEFINETLY BELIEVE A GAME SEVEN WILL PRODUCE A POP FOR THE STOCK IN THE SHORTTERM...........OR WEAKEN THE DROP IF THAT SHOULD BE THE CASE.

You can't seriously believe the outcome of this game effects Disney's stock price?

Absolutely it will if the Lakers win, on the other hand a Laker loss will have very little, if any, direct negative effect on the stock.

We call this a free overlay in the business. :103631605

The Disney stock encompasses so many different things, I highly doubt the ratings for the finals will have any kind of signifigant impact to even make up for the cost of the transaction.

Its a good move with Wall-E coming out. Solid company.

I know all disney/Pixar animated stuff make money, but doesn't this Wall-e movie look horrible? I'm not even sure if words are ever spoken.....In fact, I thought I heard they came up with all these movies in a few brainstorming sessions (Toy Story, monsters inc., nemo, etc.) and this wall-e was the last of the bunch....bottom of the barrell

The premise of it is border line retarded. They barely have enough good material to make an interesting trailer.

I honestly have not liked a computer animated flick since the first Toy Story.

I'm guessing this post was either tongue-in-cheek or an effort to get this guy :ohno: more work.

Son, son, son!!

A game SEVEN matching the LAKERS/CELTICS would be monumental.......the ratings would absolutely be through the roof for that game and make no mistake whatsoever, this will have a very, very nice impact on the performace of DIS stock.

Now make no mistake about it, would not be in the stock if not for buying on the dip today, which indeed may or may not be a more encompassing factor than a game seven occurring.

On that note, GO CELTS.

In the business, we call this not only a "free overlay" as mentioned earlier, but also a free "heart hedge".

Walt Disney Co., which owns ABC and ESPN, may boost ad sales from their broadcast of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers, according to a UBS Securities LLC analyst. As reported by the Bloomberg News:
Playoff ratings this season are 31 percent higher than last year on ABC and 28 percent higher on ESPN, analyst Michael Morris wrote today in a report. Ratings gains will bolster ESPN, which gets the ad sales, ABC and its Los Angeles station KABC, he wrote. The four most recent finals featuring the Lakers had an average 11.4 rating, almost double that of the 2007 finals between the San Antonio Spurs and Cleveland Cavaliers, Morris said.

A game seven would be a tremendous boost to DIS stock, in more ways than one.

Two prime examples.........

1. Increased ad sales/revenue
2. Exposure of the DIS name in the media, which many traders(amatuer and professional) see on the Reuters wire and react with a buy as the stock moves up.

Firsthand, I cannot tell you often DIS stock has been mentioned in connection with the NBA FINALS......on CNBC, BLOOMBERG, and internet financial sites that I frequent.
