What’s in the water in Bristol, Connecticut?

Previously, we had Dana Jacobson who couldn’t keep her hatred of Touchdown Jesus to herself. Granted, ESPN’s Olbermann-free, but they seem to have a serious problem with their out-of-control, big mouth sports babes…

Rooting for the Celtics is like saying Hitler was a victim. It’s like hoping Gorbachev would get to the blinking red button before Reagan.
— Jemele Hill, ESPN Page 2, 6/14/08

ESPN has apologized, sanitized the offending lines from her column, the web, and I’m sure she probably now considers herself the victim of a rape and lynching by The Man. But I’m sorry; she writes like an angry, whiny, little women’s studies grad.

Rooting for the Celtics is like supporting inflation, unemployment and locusts. It’s like praying for Eva Mendes to get married and for Brad Pitt to be disfigured.

It’s like wishing dollar bills and free time for Pacman Jones. It’s like hoping the pit bull doesn’t take Michael Vick’s pinky as a memento. It’s like wanting Ron Artest’s raps on repeat. It’s like coveting fungus.

So much for thoughtful analysis. If Jemele Hill wrote this and were a white male, she’d have been fired already. But in the world we live in today, should she be fired, Al Sharpton will be her lead public defender. Hill wrote it’s not about race, and then went off on Boston a racist city.

Maybe, while “loaded up with red wine and trail mix”, Hill will reflect on her words. However as of now, everyone has apologized except her.

Maybe she can lament her victim status during her vacation (suspension).

I know you posted this a few minutes before I did a little while ago. I tried to merge them as one and something messed up so I had to delete both of our threads and start over.

ESPN suspends columnist Hill

ESPN.com columnist Jemele Hill was suspended yesterday after sparking outrage by comparing rooting for the Boston Celtics [team stats] to Adolf Hitler and nuclear war.

“Jemele has been relieved of her writing and on-air responsibilities for a period of time to reflect on the impact of her words,” ESPN spokesman Paul Melvin said in an e-mailed statement yesterday.

Yesterday, Hill amplified on her earlier apology for writing, “Rooting for the Celtics is like saying Hitler was a victim. It’s like hoping Gorbachev would get to the blinking red button before Reagan.”

“In expressing my passion for the NBA and my hometown of Detroit I showed very poor judgment in the words I used,”

Hill’s suspension came as WBCN [website] radio hosts Fred Toucher and Rich Shertenlieb branded her a hypocrite and demanded she be fired.

In an April 2007 piece, Hill called for radio host Don Imus to get cashiered after his controversial 2007 “nappy-headed hos” slur.

“He is routinely offensive to people of color and women,” Hill wrote, “and if he needs to lose his job to understand that there is no place for that, so be it.”

Yesterday, the hosts of “Toucher & Rich” on WBCN-FM (104.1) said Hill should get the same treatment she had wanted for Imus.

“It has nothing to do with what she said. It has nothing to do with what Imus said. She wanted CBS to take action against Imus for what he said. That’s the bottom line,” Toucher said.

First take costs a lot less to produce is the only thing I can come up with. They set a camera for an hour and they are done with it.
