My sister threw a little family get together last weekend and it gave me a chance to see some relatives I haven't seen in years. A couple of my first cousins have hit it big financially and man do they like to play the part. Needless, to say it made for a long afternoon...these people bore me to tears.

Am I jealous? Maybe a bit.

My cousin Tony threw a little jab at my direction.."how's the gambling going?".
I used to beat the shit out of this idiot and now he gives me that stupid smirk gloating about his Cadillac Escalade and fancy house while his wife with the fake boobs and fake smile brings him a glass of wine. Pisses me off...who does this asshole think he is judging me and my way of life?

So I took my beer and myself to the TV to watch the US Open. Tony's fat kid had his grip on the remote control and wasn't giving it up to anyone. I used to like "Family Guy".

Why do we get no respect? In my family it comes down to how much money do you have. I looked over to my wife and told her we're leaving. We said our goodbyes...wished my father a happy Father's Day and left. On the way home I picked up a gram of coke and a bottle of Vodka.

My wife and I shared the coke and Vodka and life was good again. I was in my fortress of solitude with my favorite person. Lakers-Celtics came on and LA has a big lead...idiot Tony wishes he was me. But wait, Paul Pierce drains a three with 4 seconds left in the first half to pull within 3 points....I got Lakers -4 first half. Shit!!!!

I don't know who pissed me off more my cousin Tony or Paul Pierce.:ohno:

you should have told tony that anytime he would like to put his money where his ego is, you will be more than happy to take any action he is comfortable with. wouldnt it be nice to absolutely destroy a hated relative during football season??? i know i would love it.

That may be true.
But I know I'm happy in my life. I love my wife and kids and financially I'm better than most owning my house and a small independent gas station and convenience store..I am not going to judge Tony's life by his book cover.

The truth is, we are who we are. And most members of my family accept me and love me for who I am - a gambler (a successful one, and I have no intention of changing my lifestyle).

One person who doesn't accept it is my son's mother, unfortunately, and while this has caused alot of heartache and acrimony, she understands that a gambling father in our son's life is better than no father at all. So I see him whenever I want to, but I agreed that I won't "subject" him to gambling.

The way I look at it, the problem is with her, not me, since she's the closed minded one.

You should take his ass to the track and send him home with a copy of the DRF..

you should've stayed there and done some damage of your own. Who cares if you piss them off since you don't get along anyways.

How does the family know about your gambling bookie?

Long story really. The short version is back in my 20's and early 30's (I'm 45 today) gambling wiped me out. I was a real degenerate and desperation made me reach out to certain people in my family and ask them for money. That kind of news/gossip spreads pretty fast.

so to this day those people feel they "got something" on you since they helped you when you were down...like you are forever owing them right?

Exactly. Even my own father still throws shit in my face about that time.
Is it me or what but I find this very wrong.

I just don't think it's right to look down on people no matter what their circumstances. That's pretty condescending to ask in front of people "so how's the gambling going" knowing it's been a pitfall in your past. Hope it helped his self esteem, that's why people do shit like that.

I have my own 10 commandments that I live by. You just quoted #1, #2, and #8 in my list of commandments. See you in hell VD.
