Anyone know if the new iphone 2 will be exclusively with apple again. I heard thru the grapevine that they are branching out to different carriers. Any information will help. July 11 is when the phone will be released.

Apple makes the iPhone so yes. What I think you mean is exclusive to AT&T and yes it will still be only available through AT&T. FWIW, this was posted using my iPhone. I'm hoping they do some type of discount for upgrading to the new version.

That's right

I meant to say at&t. I really hope t-mobile start carrying it. I heard you can unlock the phone and move carriers. Can you do that with the iphone2?

i am sure they will try to make it a lot tougher to crack, as Apple does not receive any money from the carriers that use their phone without permission.....a big chunk of Apple's earnings comes from a partnership they strike beforehand...i know that Apple is also going international with the Iphone, and trying to get major contracts with the major carriers in China and India....I have Verizon, and I am ALMOST CERTAIN I will have to crack either an Iphone or Iphone 2 to use it in the future (and yes, cracking the Iphone original is not difficult, there are instructions online fairly easily accessible)

You probably can but its highly illegal. Just pony up the little extra and stick with AT&T. Wish they would let me trade in my I-Phone for the new one but fuck it I'm not buying another one.

I live in NYC and at&t sucks a fat one. Wouldn't mind spending the extra cash on the phone if it wasn't with the one carrier I hate most. Guess its back to square one. No other phone out there excites me.

I have heard that they will trade in but it wont be a straight trade.

The new iPhone is also only 200 bucks.

I dont know for certain but the early reports that I read had quoted Jobs saying they were staying with AT&T only.

If you bought an iPhone after May 17th or something you can get a deal, otherwise Jobs took your money knowing you would upgrade anyway. AT&T is the only carrier offering the subsidy as of now.

I went to the official website for the iphone2. It is being sold at Apple stores and AT&T stores only. I dont think it will be on other cell phone carriers.

Also, you can upgrade your original iPhone for free. I guess it wont have 3G but it will still have a lot of the newer applications.

I have the Sprint HTC....I heard the HTC is faster than the iPhone, but the HTC runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 and does not support JAVA, which is vital on many websites ( I found this out after I had my phone for a couple of months)My contract will be renewing in a couple of months, so any input would be greatly appreciated!
