I know they have been out of favor lately but Love the Mets vs Colo. Maine is solid, Cook not bad either but I am not convinced CO has it all together just yet. Good outing for the Mets. 7-5

Cook is Top 3 pitchers in NL in my opinon, up there with with Webb and Santana but without the prices. John Maine is a 5th starter on most teams.

Top 3....uh, NO! But Sagarin has Maine rated as the 15th best pitcher in the NL. Cook is rated 25th.

On my ratings sheet Cook is 13th in the NL, while Maine is 20th.
(Webb took a tumble after yesterdays debachle. He now stands at 5th)

I use a different formula for ratings and come up with this:
Maine 14.74
Cook 15.73

To put these numbers in perspective, the average for "nearly" all of the starters is 12.28. That includes several starters who make spot starts out of the pen. The highest rating is Lackey at 21.03, followed by Hamels, Halliday an Beckett.....(the only pitchers above 19.00.)

Should of been more clear in my assesement. I look at pitchers splits, two separate pitchers, home and on the road. Why would you care what a pitchers numbers are on the road when looking at playing him at home, and vice versa. In the grand scheme of things I am sure more data produces better results but this far into the season you can clearly see the discrepancy between how a pitchers performs on the road versus at home.

How would you think he ranks comparing NL pitchers in their own home parks?

Maybe I am just out of the loop but I watch 3-6 games a night on most nights and gotta stick by my guns that there are not many better pitchers than Cook in the NL, and he might be THE best for a home starting pitcher.
