I usually go with Johnny Walker. I'd like to try the blue label but I believe it's around $200 a bottle, maybe quite a bit more.

I'd love to try the Blue but can't justify that kind of money on a bottle....but somehow I can justify $500 on the Royals yesterday...I'm getting the Blue tonight and will report back.:drink:

Is it $500 a bottle? Wow, that's high. I'd still like to try it though. I've always wondered just how much better the way more expensive bottles taste.

For example, is Cristal (sp?) really that much better than regular champagne?

Price $199.99

Johnnie Walker Blue Label

Character
Johnnie Walker Blue Label's intense and luxurious nature recalls the authentic character and taste of the pioneering 19th Century Walker blends. A toasty, sweet aroma is complemented by a peaty and spicy taste that develops into heady flavours of oak, dark-chocolate and rich fruitcake. Comprising just 16 of the world's rarest whiskies, Blue Label's appeal to true Scotch connoisseurs rests on the blend's dominant Islay malt whisky, balanced by several rich Speyside malts that have undergone exceptional periods of sherry oak maturation.

History
John Walker and his son Alexander began their earliest blending experiments using a limited range of whiskies, drawn mainly from the islands, the western and northern Highlands and a few distilleries in Speyside. Once they had rejected whiskies that didn't meet their standards, they found that the very best were strictly limited in supply. Following their lead, the Johnnie Walker master-blender developed Blue Label as a celebration of the founder's unremitting standards for only the highest quality whisky.

Packaging
The label's blue-green bottle made of flint glass has been faithfully recast from a 19th century Walker bottle mold, and its rare contents are secured by a traditional cork stopper rather than a screw cap. Each bottle is individually numbered as a cast-iron guarantee of authenticity and is cradled in a satin-lined presentation box as befits a blend made up of some of the world's rarest whiskies.

Claim to fame
As Blue Label is blended from some of the scarcest and most expensive whiskies in the world, availability is seriously limited. In 1993, a panel of international experts at the International Wine and Spirit Competition awarded Johnnie Walker Blue Label its most prestigious medal, the Gold Medal for the Best Blended Whisky.

I've seen it from $175.00 to $249.00 had some last weekend. A buddy of mine will only drink the Blue. He only has one drink and he is done, so it last him a month. He offers me a drink last weekend and I start drinking it like I usually drink my scotch ( 6 or 8 drinks) and on the third one he looks at me and says do you have a hole in your foot? I said I can take a hint, grab me the Black.

Isn't Chivas really the cheap stuff? I can't believe that people pay to drink that!

Have you ever heard of the "Chivas Regal Effect"? It a marketing concept that basically says that higher pricing, regardless of your quality of product, can actually increase sales. When Chivas first started out they had production processes that let them produce it very cheaply and want to pass on the savings. Problem was that no one was used to buying a low-price bottle of whiskey. Everyone was used to paying high amounts per bottle. So, Chivas did nothing but change its price, made it higher, and sales went through the roof.

I'm sure there are plenty examples of people who think that the more they pay for a drink the better is has to be.

A great example would be wine. Just because a bottle of wine sells for $80 doesn't mean it's any better than a $20 bottle. There are obviously exceptions though.
