Someone must know this... What is the method for putting an embedded youtube video in the first post of a new thread? Unlike putting one into an existing thread, there is no "Quick reply" form available.

cas, cut and paste from the embed field should work fine. Shouldnt even have to use quick reply.

Do you use IE or firefox?

Usually IE (but I can use firefox). The only way I've successfully posted vids in the last few months is via "quick reply".

I use IE also.

Random vid I grabbed as a test:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_RyodnisVvU&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_RyodnisVvU&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Go to youtube and grab something. Highlight the embed field there with your mouse (hold down the left button and drag across) so it is completely blue, right click and select copy and paste it here. It should work. Try it, so we can pinpoint your problem.

Here's a test with cut & paste of the embed code (not "quick reply")

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="<A href="http://www.youtube.com/v/CSybR_k_Ouo&hl=en"></param><embed">http://www.youtube.com/v/CSybR_k_Ouo&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/CSybR_k_Ouo&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Edit: does not work for me (quick reply does)

I know the problem u are talking about, the way you can do it is by creating your title and then putting ONLY a smilie in post # 1. (or one or two letters, it doesnt matter)

A second later click "EDIT" Backspace out your smilie, and paste in your embedded code for the youtube Video.

The "paste" of your embedded code will work properly the same way it works in the quick reply box if you follow these instructions.

Rob,

This is after changing the interface setting to standard (cut and paste - not quick reply).

This is the correct answer.

When you start a thread it starts out in Advanced Mode. When you are in Advanced Mode you can't paste embedded code. When you edit a post it's not in Advanced Mode so you can past embedded code. Note that when you are editing a post there is a button that allows you to switch to Advanced Mode in case you want to choose smilies which is available in that mode.

also keep in mind that there is a 5 minute EDIT window. So you have 5 minutes to complete the process.

I didn't read all the responses but I don't think i saw the right answer yet....

do everything as you would in post #2 but click on the switch editor mode (top right button next to all the icons)

Edit not necessary
