From my observation, it seems that soccer refs are some of the worse in sports. I see players get mauled constantly in the penalty area and other spots on the field/pitch and they act like nothing happened. I hated the flopping that was notorious and that has dwindled but it's hard to get into this when I see players get killed MOST of the time in the penalty area and the refs "let 'em play". Is it because they don't want to be responsible for giving up a penalty kick on this level unless it's completely over the top?

Yes, most refs in a game of this magnitude will not call for a penalty kick unless the defender pulls a gun and shoots the offensive player in the box.

That's freakin sad then. That's like not calling pass interference on pass plays in American football.

I guess it's like the NHL playoffs in OT...let them play the game,
unless it's a very obvious call.

Actually I thought the NHL got alot better this year--maybe even to the extreme. There were a few 5-3 in OT in important games.
