Curious to hear what some of you view as the top 3 ingredients into capping any one mlb game. I personally lean heavily towards the following in no particular order:

(1) starting lineups

(2) starting pitchers ERA/record vs the opposition

(3) the game's home plate umpire

For me its avoidance. I'll cross off about 2/3 of the games on a card that seem 50/50. I'll usually lay off the first game in a series and avoid crap pitching matchups.

WL records - pitchers and teams (trend)
scores of previous games (what can you deduce from stats)
what should happen (feel)

Woodog22 what or how do you arrive at a 50/50 game, as you cross off about 2/3 of the day or nightly games on the schedule?

I'll stick with mostly NL & pitchers I've seen perform (NL guy). I've seen most of the NL West pitchers multiple times so I know what to expect. Sometimes you "sim" the game (in your head) based on how a visiting team has looked the day before. Braves Brew game I'd avoid Sheets is good but Atl is at home(pass) Was vs Tex What? won't even consider it. On totals of 7 or 8, at night, I'll automatically lean under.
