Just got back, and I had a great time in Boston. Fenway lived up to its hype. The only thing that didn't was the Fenway Franks.....for 4.50, you get something that tastes like a microwave hot dog on a piece of white Sunbeam bread.

Several cool bars in the neighborhood around the park also. The accent rubs off quickly, because by the end of the Saturday game, I was calling my team the Codnals.

Used to live up there, 8 years.
I was one of the few Yankee fans that was actually embraced by the 'nation'.

Went about 20 times a year when a home plate ticket was 12.50.

One of the three last shrines.
Stadium, Wrigley, and Fenway.

Great people, great fans, loved every minute of my stay there.

Next time, opt for the sausage sands outside the park, because the Fenway Franks are gone in 2 bites, and you need to burp to see what it tastes like.

yes.. it will be a sad day when Fenway finally must go and a near-billion dollar luxury stadium is created in its place
Is there any talk of that happening yet? I hope not.

It's so old school, but there isn't anything bad about the place. The bathrooms were absolutely huge, with tons of idividual urinals. I kind of expected a 10 x 12 foot room with a big tub to piss in.

No a few years back when they thankfully made the decision to renovate and add seats rather than build a new stadium, but there inevitably will be a time where the stadium is too old or enough money is offered where it will happen

Funny, I went to every stadium on the east coast (minus shea) and I hated that damn place. Smelled of piss and the seats were so small, I had to tuck my balls in my ass.

Outfield seats are tiny, and no walking beer vendors? What a stupid rule.

It's still better than the dump they call Wrigley Field, though. These are stadiums you need to visit just so you can look back and say you saw a game in these historic stadiums. But as far as comfort, convenience, etc., these places fall well short of the modern parks.

Seats are ridiculously small and cramped. It is not good from that aspect. Also stop selling beer by the 7th inning. Too many incidents have happened and that is the reason for the beer rules.

I have never been to Wrigley but to me Fenway is beautiful.

A Fenway Experience.

Jake Foley's Fenway Experience. (Not written by me - wil)

Fans: My earliest Fenway Park memory is from 1961 - I remember that feeling of entering a cathedral, and noticing how BIG the players looked when taking infield. My Grampa, Charley Weir, took my older brother and I to his usual haunt in the right-field stands, and when a skinny kid took his place in left field to a chorus of boos, I asked Gramp why people didn't like him? He replied that it was just people with little knowledge of baseball, and less patience; his take was - "Let's give the kid a chance - he'll turn out OK." Even Gramp didn't know that Yaz would one day be a Triple Crown and MVP winner, but the torch was passed.

My most memorable experience also involved Grampa Charley, and the Yankees. It was late 60's, and the Home Town Team was taking a licking, down 9-3 in the bottom of the ninth. As many of the fans have related, it behooves out-of-town fans to leave early to beat the rush. When I asked Grampa if we HAD to go (It's a long ways from central Vermont to Fenway), he just laughed, and said "It's not over till it's over" and turned to holler to the next batter "Come on, boys, let's GO!" After a few scratch hits, a hit batsman, a Yaz bomb into the bullpen, our Sox whupped the Yankees 10-9. (If you don't believe me, like the Perfessor says, you could look it up.)

Last, but perhaps most important, is the continuity of rooting for the Red Sox. In 1962, when I was 12, Grampa brought my brother and I to the Fens on the spur of the moment, and was unable to get his usual seats in right field, so we were schlepping down Lansdowne St. to get into the bleachers . It was almost gametime, and most of the crowd had cleared out. I remember all the food vendors closing up their carts, and gawking at the net atop the Green Monster.......... and I walked headlong into the first parking meter in line next to the Wall!!!! I was embarrassed, but Gramp just smiled, and said he was sure it happened to a lot of people their first time down Lansdowne Street.

Fast forward to 1992, when my Cincinnati Red wife (She's coming around) and I took our den of 12-year old Cub Scouts to get some bleacher seats to see the White Sox with Bo Jackson. We took them on the subway (Ten 12-year olds - keep them together in a crowd!), and watched them as they schlepped down Lansdowne Street, looking at the hat and food vendors closing up their carts, gawking at the net atop the Green Monster........... and my eldest son (age 12) walked headlong into the exact same parking meter I had hit 30 years ago, almost to the day!

From Grandpa Charley, to me, to Brandon (Lefty-hitting catcher - maybe a Red Sox player of the future, eh?), Fenway is the greatest place to see a ball game, and the Red Sox are the ONLY team to root for!

P.S. I don't agree with management that can't get us a championship often, but Fenway should be replaced - the original left in pieces; Diamond vision screen?!! 600 Club abortion?!!! I DO agree with the fan who spoke up for inexpensive seats; my Grampa was not wealthy, but he went to every game he could make - these are the true fans - the ones whose moms will forge them a "sick" note for opening day. In '67, we painted a sign on a sheet and hung it from our chimney - my dad was furious, but Mom said she needed a new sheet, anyway. She also wrote us a note that we could skip classes to go to the auditorium, where the principal had a TV set up for us rabid Red Sox FANS! There is NO curse (Unless you count Duquette), so GO SOX!

wil.

Whizzed into the troughs many times. They were part of the park and should've always remained.

Fenway Park is a dump and that's being nice about it. Unless you have one of the few good seats in the park, the sight lines are terrible. There are poles everywhere which create a lot of obstructed view seats. The large number of aisles create a constant flow of traffic which further blocks your view. The seats are like cement so bring a cushion. The hot dogs are awful. As billhill mentioned, get a sausage sandwich outside the park. They're hot and fresh and you can get a lot of toppings if you want. There's also a lot of good pubs and restaurants in the area so eat before you get into the park. Fenway Park is an old, dirty, smelly and cramped ballpark.

I grew up in Massachusetts so I've spent some wonderful nights at Fenway Park but it's simply not a good place to watch a game. That being said, if you haven't been I would recommend at least one visit and then you can make your own decision. I will have to say my fondest memory of going there as a young boy was the feeling you get when you get to the top of the stairs at the Kenmore Square subway station and you look up and you can see Fenway Park and you know you're almost there.
