NBA Scuttlebutt - Heat work out Mayo, may skip Beasley

With the Chicago Bulls expected to take Memphis guard Derrick Rose in Thursday's NBA Draft, the big question is what the Maimi Heat will do with the No. 2 pick.

The Heat have been sending mixed messages, telling one NBA official that they planned to take and keep Kansas State forward Michael Beasley but telling another NBA official that they are concerned about his maturity and are interested in USC guard O.J. Mayo, the Miami Herald reports.

The Heat worked out Mayo and guard Jerryd Bayless Tuesday in Miami, and ESPN reports the team is seriously considering taking Mayo second overall.

Both the Seattle SuperSonics and Memphis Grizzlies have made offers to Miami for the No. 2 pick, an NBA GM tells the Herald. The GM said both Seattle and Memphis made offers based on the Heat taking Beasley then trading him. The source said Seattle was offering forward Chris Wilcox and the No. 4 pick for big man Mark Blount and Beasley, while Memphis was offering a deal that involved either Kyle Lowry or fellow guard Mike Conley. Neither one of those offers presented enough value to be enticing for the Heat, the GM told the newspaper.

Other trade rumors have the Heat sending Dwyane Wade to Chicago for the No. 1 pick, second-year forward Tyrus Thomas and veteran shooting guard Larry Hughes, the Miami Herald reports. But Bulls GM John Paxson said Tuesday, "When is the first pick traded? It just doesn't happen."
The Knicks also are interested in Mayo, Newsday reports. Depending upon what the five teams in front of New York do in the draft, the Knicks are looking at Mayo, UCLA's Russell Westbrook and Italian swingman Danilo Gallinari.

Miami mentioned something about Beasley's immaturity, but I think I would be more worried about his size..At 6-7 he was pretty good as a freshman in college. But I don't think he'll be nearly as dominate as a forward in the NBA...I know it depends alot on a teams needs, but I would be going after Bayless before I went after Beasley..I was hoping Seattle would get Bayless, since the Sonics will be moving to my hometown Oklahoma City in the near future..They could use a good point guard. And he's a great prospect.

Beasley Is A Stud

they are posturing for a trade. if they have the pick come draft day they will take beasley.

I think Beasley measured out closer to 6-9 than 6-7.

If they don't take Beasley, they should get kicked out of the NBA.....

....you can't purposely lose games for a lottery pick and then screw up your draft...who's running this team? hognuts?

I've heard 6-7 from most outlets..At any rate the biggest critic I've heard of him is his size at the forward position..In my opinion Beasley will be very good in the NBA...But not the great franchise type of player...

beasley is the best player in the draft. RIley has been eyeing him all year long, trying to get #1 pick just to get him. Even though he got the #2 pick, everything all works out

I would go with OJ. Beasley is only 6'7 and OJ much better shooter.

He measured out at 6-7. They have been talking about it for 10 days in Chicago. Bulls really need a high-character guy.
