Today they play at high noon........and the heat index will be around 180.3

They may draw less than 10,000 today.

Right! The Devil Death Rays, would be even better,
hahaha

I'm not into anything like that I'm just saying it sounded cool and edgy. Plus I like saying 'D-Rays'.

Just plain 'Rays', it sounds weak.

I agree plus it is no longer the name of a fish like was intended.

Guess the bible belt extends over there. How about The Jesus Rays? On the east coast they could have The Moses Marlins.

if they dont start increasing their attendance in the next month or so (if they continue to win) then its seriously time to start looking to move that franchise...they have had some young talented guys for a couple years but its all coming together and they are starting to believe they belong....if they fans dont start coming to see them soon, they're never coming....

Fish, why is baseball such a tough sell in Florida?

I'LL GIVE YOU A FEW REASON FROM THE SOUTH FLORIDA VIEW.....

IT'S A FOOTBALL TOWN AND NOTHING IS CLOSE

WEATHER, HOT, HUMID AND A 50% CHANCE OF RAIN EVERY DAY IN THE SUMMER WHERE THE STADIUM IS LOCATED

FANS HERE ONLY GO IF THEY ARE WINNING

MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE HERE ARE FROM SOME WHERE ELSE. NO LOYALTY TO THE MARLINS.

OWNERSHIP IS HORRIBLE

ALOT OF OTHER OPTIONS EVERY DAY.

one day the announcers on fox radio were obsessed with the attendance at the marlins gm. they talked abut it for over 1 hour. the announced attendance was 9000 i think, and they were laughing that there was almost no one in the seats, they guessed at the actual attendance as 1000 .

the bottom line is, I think marlins are making $

I've only been to S Fla once in my life, so I won't argue with your other points, but how can you say ownership is horrible??? Despite the fact that no one comes to their games, they generate a fraction of the income that their division rivals the Braves, Mets, and Phillies do, and they have a stadium that, from all reports, is hard to get to, they put a contending team on the field more often than not.

Try being an Orioles fan and tell me that the Marlins ownership is horrible.

.

Yes and yes. I live there in the winter. My roots still bring me back to my home town, CHGO.

When I'm down there I watch quite a few PreSeason games.

Stadium is easy to get to....only 10 minutes off of I-95 and never any traffic as they aren't drawing. I live about 12 miles away and I can leave home and be in my seat in less than 30 minutes.

The weather is not that bad...I don't think the Marlins have had a rain delay all year....maybe they started a half hour late one night. It's relatively pleasant in the evenings with a nice breeze usually.

Here's the bottom line....Miami-Dade County is 70 Hispanic, and Hispanics are supposed to be baseball lovers. But for whatever reasons they do not support the team. I do not know why they don't go to games, but one needs to look there to solve the riddle of the Marlins poor attendance.

Broward is more racially diverse, (about 50% white) but I believe there are psychological barriers about going south to Miami-Dade to watch baseball. Most people in Broward hate to go south. Oriole pre-season games draw well in Broward, and they play weekday afternoons.

Does S. Florida support any of its teams well? Nationally, all you ever hear is how terrible the attendance is for regular-season Marlins, Dolphins, Heat, Panthers and even Hurricanes games.

Seems like it's South Beach vs. Sports down there and South Beach is the perrenial winner.

I think Lapdance covered it pretty well.

The other argument for me is that, is going to a game really worth the cost? The Marlins have a good young team, but when you factor the cost of 4 tickets and parking and couple sodas and dogs for a family of 4, it gets expensive for the average family. With the economy being as slow as it has been, I can understand why many people would not attend a game that is on TV. Also, the ballpark doesn't have much energy.

Marlins cheapest tickets for gameday purchse $12. While this may not be a lot money to most on this forum, you figure they have to spend roughly $70 to $80 bring their family to a game, that is a lot of money for a lot people.

Rays games are cheap enterrtainment. I carried the 2 1/2 year old in after buying 2 $11 tix. BARMAN will vouch these seats are as good as any. The Rays will let you bring your own food PEANUTS, WATER etc.
Parking is free if it's 4 or more in the car.
