This famous golf course has entered my top five that I have ever played...and probably the most exclusive....this was the site of the very first Open and the views on the ocean are incredible...located in Newport, Rhode Island....the course has been the home for many pro and amatuer tournaments....luckily Joeyfitz and my friend Kevin knew the superintendant and we got on and had a great time....the super told me a story that Micheal Jordan showed up with Joe Morgan with two limos and a bunch of their friends and wanted to play...the man in charge asked them if they were friends of members or just members...They said no and were in the area and wanted to play....the guy replied turn around and leave, you are trespassing.....it is not that the members are racist, it is just that the course likes its privacy I am told...the clubhouse is spectacular and the scenery is tremendous.....those of you who play golf, this is a must see...Tiger Woods won as an amatuer here and Annika Sorrenstram won the ladies US Open here.....plans on hosting the Walker Cup are being considered....

Shot 84...Kevin 80..Cris9super) 81, and my boy Joeyfitz 108....par is 72 and the sandtraps and rough are treacherous....the only golf course that I have ever played that tells you to KEEP the carts IN the fairway....

Joeyfitz will be back in an hour and will post some pics...

And for only playing a handful of times in a year, Joey isn't bad...actually won two holes with par.....we were giving him 1.5 strokes a hole....

Nope...but I intend to in the future...another short story, I bought a yellow bag with black trim when I was in Thailand...one of the members here asked me if I owned the yellow hummer that was in the parking lot...real pleasant guy, turns out that he is the heir to the Campbell Soup Company and lives in Newport....Joeyfitz and Kevin got a kick out of that...

I have driven by the Newport Country Club many times but have never been lucky enough to get to play it.

How was The Black Pearl?

All in all Newport itself is beautiful.

We got side tracked before golf yesterday, so we are going to Black Pearl at 1:30 today...Kevin is a bartender down here and has been to Costa Rica a few times, and has many connections here in Newport...

Steak, you would have broken 130, but not by much....

Good move, bartenders know all the best places to eat and drink. I hope you have a great lunch. Make sure you have the New England Clam Chowder not the red Manhattan style chowder (if they even have it).

i worked for a club in the philly area from 89 to 92 . my head pro ended up moving to the newport job around 1995. he was in his late 50's then and stayed there for 2 or 3 years i think. then another i know got the job.

i probably know 30 members at newport that are also members at the club i worked at.

was the campbell soup guy's last name dorrance ?

they are the main family and members at my old club in king of prussia.
