The immediate future of the Seattle SuperSonics will be decided when the trial between the team and its long-time city comes to a close Wednesday.

Calling the Pacific Northwest their home for over 30 years, the Sonics' whereabouts next season will be determined by Judge Marsha Pechman, who will post her decision on the court's web site.

It has been a very public trial between the city of Seattle and the SuperSonics, whose future most likely will come down to Pechman's interpretation of the team's agreement with the city, which has been the main point of contention throughout the six-day trial.

Seattle is seeking to hold the owners of the Sonics to the remaining two years of the team's KeyArena lease.

As such, lawyers for the city obtained e-mails that show majority owner Clay Bennett and his ownership group may not have been honest about their plans to keep the Sonics in Seattle.

Season ticket holders also have filed a class action lawsuit that contends they were tricked into buying tickets under the belief that the Sonics would be staying in the Pacific Northwest.

The Sonics have alleged that they are losing money at KeyArena, thereby necessitating a likely move to Oklahoma City, Bennett's hometown.

If the team does move, it would be the first NBA franchise to relocate since the Hornets left Charlotte for New Orleans in 2002. Ironically, the Hornets also spent parts of two seasons in Oklahoma City in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

That short stint provided evidence that Oklahoma City was a competent basketball market with an enthusiastic fan base, prompting Bennett's exuberance about the move.

I have been to Key Arena once. What POS. Can't blame the owners for wanting something better. Although they could have handled the whole situation in a different way.

I got a feeling were going to lose. Here's to Howard Schultz somehow winning his case.

The judge will rule today that they can leave Seattle when they chose and that the two sides should come to a monetary resolution. Seattle will quickly file and appeal and it will be held up for at least two years for that process to work itself out. Either way, Sonics are leaving and Seattle will never have another NBA team. Time to think about NHL Hockey?

seattle dropped the ball on this. should've put up a new arena. i wonder where they play next year though, because i dont think they have a new arena up in okc.

seattle got lazy, another city stepped up and wanted them. this is what happens when you are reactive instead of pro-active.

I think it's akin to like the OJ trial.

High price attorneys vs civil servants.

They bailed in the end.

done with the first trial....bring on #2

Thinking Schultz will have a better team of sleezballs, and he's not liking how he is perceived by all here in N.W.

Cocksucker got the team at a bargan price to keep team here and then sold for top dollar to six business men from Muskoge.

Within 15 years they will be looking to leave OKC. Smart move not building them a stadium. Fuck the owners.

Nobody is funding a hotel for me, I will bring jobs to your town. This is why Seattle has some of the richest people in America, because they aren't fucking idiots!

Buildings sports stadiums every 20 years now at cost between 250 and 1 Billion is just plain stupid!
