This is stupid. I'm a Jays fan and would love for them to finish ahead of the Rays (and still think they can), but there is no way both the Yankees and Jays finish ahead of them. The Yankees have a very good lineup, but that pitching is way too bad to seriously contend.

It's not like the Rays are just off to a hot start like the Marlins or D-Backs, they have tons of talent. They are a top 5 team in the league, and possibly the single most talented team. It looks like another sweep of the Red Sox tonight and they'll be 3.5 games up on the Sox for the division.

The Rays have a better shot of winning the World Series than they do of finishing fourth in the division.

Do the math, crunch the numbers.

Rays are 51-32
Fourth place Orioles are 42-40

If the Rays play .500 ball they win 93.
If they win 93, Baltimore must win 51, or go 51-30, which is what? about .630 ball.

Even if they do that, which is damn near impossible, the Yankees and Red Sox both have to play lights out ball to force the Rays to tumble to fourth.

Bottom line, three teams can not catch and over take the Rays, especially the way the AL East all play each other a lot the final six weeks of the season.

I'll take any action you want.
Basic math says you would lose that bet, and lose it easily.

The Rays just dominated the Sox this series. As a BoSox fan, I have to say that was quite deflating. I can admit when we are beat. And in all 3 games we were thoroughly outplayed.

Hats off to you Tampa, you got a nice squad. Stand behind them!

I guess you dont follow baseball, they have building a great team for the last few years, baseball america projected them to win the world series in 09 a few years ago...if they DONT make the playoffs i would honestly be shocked

Beginning now, the Rays are the hunted. Yes, they have been in first place several times before this season. And they have swept the Red Sox previously, not to mention the Angels and the Cubs.
But until this series — until Evan Longoria won a game Tuesday night with his glove and B.J. Upton won one Wednesday night with his — the Rays still had the feel of interlopers. Like a bunch of frat boys crashing a party.
That will no longer be the case. July has arrived, and the world is taking notice of Tampa Bay.
From here on, every series becomes big. Every blunder gets magnified. Every loss is a potential slide back to obscurity, and every critic has a joke waiting to be delivered.
In a way, this might be just what the Rays needed. Just when you were worrying they could be seduced by the magazine covers and the national telecasts, Big Papi has come along and tweaked their hardball insecurities.
