Growing up a sports fan near Seattle there were 4 things you really cared about and those were the Seahawks, Mariners, Huskies and Supersonics. I remember going to my first Sonic game when I was around 16 with a friend of mine. We went and saw the Sonics take on the Utah Jazz and we went down by the tunnel and I thought at that time Mark Eaton was the largest man on earth. Karl Malone was quite impressive himself but damn they could run that pick and roll.

My dad would tell me about the great Sonic teams of the late '70s and to this day one of those teams brought our city its only major pro championship. Sikma was a good center and The Wizard was amazing. Xavier gave our team some toughness (especially when he choked Wes Matthews) and Dale Ellis and Tom Chambers helped us compete against the tough L.A. Lakers teams. We used to have some battles with the Lakers but could never overtake them until two players arrived, Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp.

Seeing our team take on Jordan and the mighty Bulls was a very good feeling. Even though we lost we were competing and the city was electric. Detlef and "The Big Smooth" Sam Perkins played hard against the greatest team to ever take the floor in the NBA and we actually took game 6 down to the wire in Chicago.

Our teams haven't been good lately but they would've been better in a few years. Kevin Durant, Jeff Green and Westbrook were giving us a good solid foundation for years to come.

Sorry for rambling on here but this is probably the only thing I will write on this topic. I hate the NBA right now. I hate David Stern and all his shadiness. His refs are crooked and he is a two-faced fucking liar. His boy Bennett finally got his team and I can just see Stern and Bennett having a great time and celebrating in one of our nice restaurants in downtown Seattle. I will never follow the NBA like I once did. I will bad mouth it till the day I die. How will I explain this to my son who already has a Sonic's jersey? Who will we root for? It sure won't be the Blazers who we've had a rivalry with since day 1. It's easy, I won't root for anyone. And I'm real sorry for saying this but I sure do hope the Seattle Supersonics fail miserably in Oklahoma.

As you can tell I'm a very disgruntled fan right now and I know exactly how folks in Baltimore feel.

I can remember growing up in the Chicagoland area where everybody rooted for the Bears, Bulls Cubs and White Sox.The 85 Bear season was the best ever and the crushing heartache of the 84 Cubs collapse still stays with me today. What a summer that was. 83 was not so bad either with the White Sox as my grandparents lived on 35th and Wells and I got to see a losing team win for once.

Man those were the days.
