Seems that everything posted here is pro red sox, anti yankee or anti arod so here is a good story

NEW YORK - John Challis is terminally ill, but this was one of the good days for the 18-year-old from the Pittsburgh area. Alex Rodriguez drove to Yankee Stadium yesterday and took the kid and his dad along for the ride. That was right after the tour of A-Rod's fancy Manhattan apartment.

"I liked the chef," Challis said, wearing a gray Rodriguez No. 13 jersey as the real No. 13 laughed next to him on the field before the Yankees' 3-2 loss to Texas last night. "It was a nice tour."

Rodriguez was a one-man newsmaking machine on this day. The third baseman did a nice thing for a kid with a form of adult liver cancer; said he doesn't want to be in the Home Run Derby at the Stadium on July 14; and was reported by US Weekly to have been making visits to Madonna's place on Central Park West.

For the record, he had no comment when asked about the third news flash. As for the second news flash, he has participated in the derby only three times and not since 2002. He pointed yesterday to a fear of messing up his swing.

"It's always been (a concern) for me," Rodriguez said.

As for the nice thing he did, it had roots in the team's series in Pittsburgh last week. The Pirates set it up for Challis to visit with the Yankees at PNC Park. Then his dad called media-relations director Jason Zillo on Sunday to say Challis wanted to visit the Stadium and they already had the plane tickets.

So the Yankees picked up the tab for everything else and let him watch the game from the owner's box.

Rodriguez's entry came out of a Monday conversation with Zillo, who told him Challis was coming.

After the tour that lasted between 30 and 45 minutes, A-Rod drove him up through Harlem on the way to the Bronx. Challis said his chauffeur was "very aggressive" on the road, but he had no complaints.

"It was awesome," Challis said. "It was cool that somebody that big took time out of his busy schedule to take me for a ride to the ballpark."

"It was a treat for me to be around him," Rodriguez said. "He has such a great attitude. ... It just reminds you of how fortunate we are and all the blessings that we have from the good Lord."
