Thats the word from ESPN:

It looks like the next time C.C. Sabathia takes the mound he'll be donning a Milwaukee Brewers jersey.

The Brewers and the Cleveland Indians agreed to a deal for the reigning AL Cy Young on Sunday, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The newspaper reports the deal is contingent on paperwork being finished and the exchange of medical records.
Cleveland would get Double-A outfielder Matt LaPorta, who is hitting .288 with 20 homers and 66 RBIs in 84 games for Huntsville, and two other minor leaguers in return, according to the Journal Sentinel. The two other players do not include top prospects Alcides Escobar or Mat Gamel.
The Brewers wanted Sabathia, who rejected a $72 million, four-year extension from the Indians during spring training, on their pitching staff in time to get him two starts before the All-Star break, according to multiple media reports. Sabathia, who is 6-8 with a 3.83 ERA this season, could debut in Milwaukee against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday.
Brewers general manager Doug Melvin told the Journal Sentinel on Saturday that a proposal was on table and he awaiting word from Indians GM Mark Shapiro.
"Mark said he'd be in touch with me," said Melvin. "I'm sure they've got to think through everything."
Laporta was scratched from Huntsville's lineup Sunday, another indication the deal was close.
Milwaukee, which hasn't made the playoffs since 1982, is second in National League standings behind the Chicago Cubs.
The Brewers have been considered the front-runner in the Sabathia sweepstakes. The Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays were among other teams vying for his services.

Used to be fun. . hope they don't start dumping.

How long do they have Sizemore contracted for?

This is no Sizemore, Philips and Cliff Lee, but Laporta is as good a prospect as their is in the bigs

He is well worth the two first round picks the Indians would have had if they held onto CC

I would rather have Bedard though as he is every bit the ace CC is with a 4 year deal

Would suck if Brewers lose him to Yanks

At least the Brewers still have a 10-cent bullpen, and Ned Yost in charge.

Nothing agiainst CC Sabathia but imagine turning down a 4 year $72,000,000 deal (Some estimate the deal was worth $85M). I don't know what the Brewers will offer him but in that financial range does a few more million really make any difference in the quality of life that CC will live out the rest of his days.

Perhaps he feels his chances to get a ring are a lot better in Milwaukee. I know he had a great season last year while winning the AL CY Young Award but sporting a record of 6-8 with an ERA of 3.83 so far this season I guess it shows to what extent teams will go to get top flight pitching these days.

I wish him good luck with the Brewers.

Not hard to imagine considering Santana received 6 years 137 million. Sabathia will get 100 million + somewhere, but it wont be in cleveland OR milwaukee.. this is strictly a rental for milwaukee. Sabathias record and era are deceiving.. he had such an awful 2 or 3 starts to the season.. over the last 2 months his era is under 2.

Correct, he had like a 13.00 ERA after his first 4 starts, since than he has been the best in the majors

I think the Indians win this trade, but still a good pickup for the Brewers. They'll most likely lose him at the end of the season, but at least he'll give them a better chance at making the playoffs this year, which would be huge for that organization.

As a brewer fan when this trade talk first got brought up i didn't like the fact of trading our top prospect (LaPorta) to basically rent a guy for 3 months....
however, the more I look at it the more i LOVE it!

You have to take your shots when you get them - if the Brewers don't make this trade they still have a shot at the Wildcard, but to win it all?

So a few years from now LaPorta is playing, but Sheets is gone, maybe Fielder is gone too.... so why not give up your best prospect (especially when they have a handful of others - 10 of their AA players made the All-Star team this year) for a chance to win it all

The Brewers own the draft and have an amazing farm system - and if they lose Sheets and Sabathia at years end (which they will!) we will have 5 of the top 35 picks in the draft where we excel

So as much as I was looking forward to seeing LaPorta play, I would rather have a legitimate shot of making a playoff run... a RUN (not just making it there and geting embarrased like the Cubs did last year)

I was also discouraged with CC's record (trading a top prospect for a 6-8 guy) but as I read about the lack of run support (CC got 2 runs or less in 11 of 18 starts) I realized he is still pitching alright and the Brewers won't have trouble giving him run support!

go crew

For the record

My point was when you start talking about 75 to 100 million dollars at some point it becomes moot if it is 75, 85, or 90 million that you get for those four years. What if CC never got it back after his terrible start, would the Brewers or some other team be so anxious to part with such a huge contract when he becomes a free agent in October?

Bascially a very large bird in the hand was offered to CC last spring in the form of $72M ($85M with incentives) that he turned down.

Natrually it's the fans that pay in the end for everything whether we realise it or not. Sport salaries have gone completely bonkers IMHO.

Everyones favorite scapegoat right now, Jason Veritek is being paid $11M by Boston this year.

Go figure.

Examples of craziness.

Randy Johnson - 5-7 with an ERA over 5.00 earns $15M this season.

Pedro Martinez at 2-2 with an ERA over 7.00 earns almost $12M this season.

Jason Giambi is getting $23M this year.

and the real capper is Carl Pavano is being paid $11M.

I realise injuries are a big part of the game and veteran stars have guaranted contracts but at some point baseball needs to get just a little more realistic. I mentioned two Yankees, before you get crazy, I know the Red Sox are almost as bad with their payroll. Big Papi is being paid $13M to not play.
