This saying needs to be retired. The hardest thing to do in all of sports is to play tennis at the highest level. Federer and Nadal are simply not human.

No. Hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to in all of sports.

That was the best tennis match I've ever seen, though. Amazing.

Hardest to hit in terms of success rate? Maybe, but I'd say it's far from the toughest job in sports.

I've heard more than one pro baseball player say that hitting a golf ball straight was the hardest thing they've ever done. After the way I played golf today, I believe them.

If you hit 3 out of 10 times in baseball your good, that says alot about how HARD it is to hit a baseball, hardest thing in sports easily

That 3 out of 10 is total bs, its 3 out of 10 without somebody throwing you out at first, hitting a baseball is easy. Jim Courier and Agassi hitting ball further than lots of MEts with bp at Shea. Aaron KRickstein was hitting all line drives in 90mph cage.

Avr mlb fastball is 86, tennis serves are 130. I play both at pretty lofty levels. Tennis is an international game, baseball is played only in SE and Western USA and some banana republics. There is 1200 American baseball jobs of people making 6 figures there is only about 30 in Tennis. Reason is Tennis is not easy.

One thing you are not factoring in here is the hitting surface of a tennis racket is much bigger than a bat. The rest, you are right.

No if it was so hard to hit a baseball out of the 54 outs a game there would be 40 strike outs not 15 a game

anything in baseball is easy to do thats the way they made the game so it would be a pastime

Hitting a baseball in general is easy.

Hitting a baseball WELL is the hardest thing to do in sports.

To quote one of the best hitters of all time, "It's a round ball and a round bat, and you got to hit it square."

I love the major sports, but both golf and tennis are harder to play than baseball, hockey or basketball. Football might be harder only because of the punishment your body goes through, but in terms of skill you have to have to play the game it is also an easier sport to play and be good at.

From my experience of playing all the above sports tennis is the hardest, followed by golf. You just don't understand how difficult those sports are until you try and play them at a high level.

I won't say anything about tennis, but golf is played by senior citizens. It might take more skill than I could ever have, but that doesn't mean overall it's harder to do.

That's like saying the hardest thing to do in sports is to hit a golf ball like Tiger Woods or throw a football like Peyton Manning. The saying means that hitting a baseball is the hardest basic objective in any sport. Whether it is true or not is debatable, but you can't compare it to playing tennis at the highest level possible because then you could just say playing any sport at its highest level is the hardest thing to do.
