exaggerating here, but they just got rich harden and chad gaudin.......

if harden isnt effected by changing leagues, he was my pick for al cy young.....he shld win 20 games once he joins the best offense in league...cubs clearly team to beat in EITHER league after getting this stud

OAKLAND -- After days of trade talks circling the A's clubhouse, Oakland made a deal official on Tuesday by announcing the trade of pitchers Rich Harden and Chad Gaudin to the Chicago Cubs in a six-player deal.

<TABLE class=floatLeft cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=125 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD> </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Harden, the centerpiece of the transaction, has posted All-Star numbers in the first half of the season, with a 5-1 record and a 2.34 ERA in 13 starts. The right-hander heard the news around 3 p.m. PT and has already been in touch with Chicago general manager Jim Hendry.
"I had heard talk about it, but it's still always a surprise," Harden said just minutes after learning of the move. "It's a bit of a shock. But they're a good team, and they have a chance of doing something special."
In return for Harden and Gaudin, who is 5-3 with a 3.59 ERA in 26 games (six starts), Oakland received right-handed pitcher Sean Gallagher, catcher Josh Donaldson, infielder Eric Patterson and outfielder Matt Murton. The 26-year-old Harden leaves the A's with a 36-19 career record over a span of five-plus seasons. Gaudin, 26, was in his third season with Oakland. Both will be with the Cubs by Wednesday, but it is not known when Harden will make his first start in a Chicago uniform.

Why does Oakland always move its Ace pitcher do they know something the public doesn't? Or they know they will not be able to keep him so get something for him while you can?

Explain to me how the Phillies couldn't get Harden zeke. Seems to me the Cubs didn't give up nearly enough as they should have.

they can't keep them, so they get what they can (which is usually equal value in the end). gallagher will probably be a stud in a few years. the a's just don't make bad deals.

it looks like a decent deal for both teams (the cubs needed more pitching and this is definitely their year to make a strong push) but I would be a little worried if I were a cubs fan that Billy Beane just robbed me - why? because he's a professional thief

It obviously hinges on health as if Rich goes on the DL this year then this trade is a disaster - Harden hasn't pitched more than 100 innings in a season since 2005...good luck Cubbies

Beane is one of the best GM's in the bigs. The A's won this trade.

Although in saying that I'm not saying it was a bad trade for the Cubs. I'll take a healthy Harden over a healthy Sabathia any day, but if they don't win the World Series either this year or next year it will be a huge win for the A's when looked at in the future, just like the Indians won their trade unless the Brew Crew win it all this year.

People don't like seeing their team trade for prospects, but I would have gladly given up AJ Burnett straight up to Milwaukee for La Porta or to Chicago for Gallagher.

no reason whatsoever in my mind......everyone in either league thinks kendrick is actually good....id have cashed in on that value if i were the phils...id think the a's would value kendrick as much as they value gallagher.........if phils got harden, id be chalking WS up for phils no doubt...can u imagine hamels and harden?

the real question is, are the A 's this intimidated by the angels that they are packing in the season now? they aint a bad team

I wouldn't deal Kendrick because that is another hole in the rotation and all he does is win.

I can see why they didn't get CC because the Brewers wanted a position player, but the A's took pitchers. I'm sure they would have taken a package with either Carrasco or Cardenas in the deal. I'm sick of the future bullshit.

Have you seen that lineup? The only way the A's would be able to compete with the Angels for an entire season is if they combined their pitching with the Rangers bats. Otherwise the Angels win the West with ease yet again.

If harden got hurt tomorrow, and missed entrie rest of season until september, and could pitch in playoffs, cubs would be better off.......they need this guy for playoff run....

cubs and phillies both mashing teams that got blanked in playoffs last year, and all the swining in the world didnt help them....what both teams needed was a pitcher that could dominate and win a 1-0 game for them...and thats exactly what the cubs got.....they dont need this guy to make the playoffs, they need him to win a playoff series, and go deep into the show....u cant predict what will happen, but if u trot big z, and harden out there 2 out of 3 times, u shld get wins most the time......

everyone seems to think demster is the real deal...i personally am not sold, and if he starts game in playoffs id fade the hell out of him........i think lily is 3rd playoff arm, and i think cubs management remembers it was only 2 years ago that dempster was a human gas can, and he cant keep this up much longer

kendrick not likely to start playoff games.....and phils, like cubs...should be able to make playoffs with current roster...harden is a guy to put u over the top, and win NLCS.....kendrick's spot isnt a hole if u trade him, and his value will never be this high again.....hes gonna start getting shelled in august, and everyones gonna act like he lost his stuff....he never had it...hes leagues luckiest pitcher.

kendrick could go 20-10 this year, and hamels and moyer will start playoff games in front of him

Kendrick isn't pretty, but he keeps you in the game. He looks like a decent #3 starter.

You would think after Myers going to Triple AAA they would make a big move, but didn't and never will with this management. They want to be a contender to sell tickets, but won't make the final push.

Ludwick HR. 2-0 great. Going to waste another Hamels decent start. Also can you tell me why Ruiz is still in the majors? He has to lead the league in double plays.

Couldn't agree more, I should have been more specific with my DL comment - what I mean is if Harden doesn't help the Cubs in the playoffs then this trade is a disaster. If he is healthy and dominates then they may well have underpaid. Billy Beane has to feel like selling high after being burned by RH so many times and i can't say i blame him. Sure, it's a hard sell to your ballclub that just lost its ace before the stretch run but he obviously feels this move is the best for the future of the A's. If this were anybody but Billy Beane I'd be saying the Cubs were guilty of larceny but this guy has come out of the pile smelling clean so many times I wouldn't be surprised if Harden experiences elbow tenderness the day after he passes his physical.

The Cubs made a move that should be appreciated on this site - it was the move of a high-stakes gambler...time will tell, I'm glad I get to watch ;)
