I have been playing with the same Ping Zings for 15 years. I am going to take the plung and buy a new set of clubs. I have not kept up with the newest technology or trends. I am about a 15 handicap. What clubs would the knowledgeable golfers on the board recommend as the best new clubs for the price. My son just turned 11 and is taking up the game so I am investing in new clubs for myself.

Find a local demo day. Demo everything you can get a hold of. Clubs you think you'd like you'll hate, your scores will improve with equipment your confident with.

I have really noticed this year that there isn't much difference between the new technology in club heads. I am talking about forgiving clubs such as; Callaway X-20, Taylor Made Tour Burner, Cobra FP, and Ping G10.

The biggest difference we are finding are shafts and lie angles. These are making a bigger difference in overall club fitting than forgiving iron heads. It has alway been this way.

Make sure you get fit by a club fitter, not on the internet, and make sure they check your ball speed and do an impact test. There are so many shafts out there that you want the correct one that fits your ball speed. Make sure they check your impact because all golfers impact the ball differently and we all all different shapes and sizes.

Technology has improved greatly over 15 years.

Regardless of your handicap, your game should improve

Not many golfers know this...shafts do make a difference...things I have done recently is re-griping your clubs, using hybrids, and using better balls and golf gloves...playing much better than last year....

IMO the Callaway X-18 irons have great value right now. They were going for about $1100, then Callaway came out with the X-20's, and the price got cut in half. For 1 year old technology, that seems hard to beat.

Damn! That was smart. I love the irons, but I should have done the same. I am going to buy the Ping Tour Wedges, though.

have worked at a golf store for 4.5 years now, the thing you make sure you do is get fitted that is the biggest thing that i can tell you. being a 15 handicap your shooting about 90 most of the time and therefore you could also use some forgiveness. if you dont care what clubs look like, try the hibore irons, one of the most forgiving that we have. others would include x-20 or big berthas depending on how much forgiveness you want, same goes for on the g10s and i10s. another thing i would suggest is dont but the entire set, break it up and start at the 5 iron unless you get the hibores and get hybrids in place of the 3 and 4 iron, much smarter and maybe even do your 5 iron as well. hybrids are the greatest thing out in golf right now and every golfer should have AT LEAST one.
