According to a league source, the Lakers already have contacted the Kings regarding Artest and are believed to be offering forward Lamar Odom.

As of Tuesday evening, the Kings had not returned the call.
They are expected to insist on forward Kenny Thomas and his $18 million
f remaining salary (over two seasons) being included in that potential trade.

Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie declined comment on whether the
Lakers had called.

You guys think this is a good move for LA?

L.A. was exposed defensively in the playoffs and particularly the finals against the Celtics. One thing Artest would bring is toughness and attitude that could spread to others. Odom disappeared and was foul prone in the playoffs. The Lakers won't get any better until they address the defensive weaknesses as well as dump the players that show up when they want to. I think it would be a good move for the Lakers. Just my two cents.

Lakers are finally getting smart and realizing they need more defenders than just Kobe. Artest makes any team he plays for a contender. If this trade goes through, my opinion of LAL will go up greatly. Top 3 team. Right now I have them out of the top 5 just barely.

I'm awaiting a lapdance post as well now haha.

If you believe Bynum is coming back healthy and will the starting C with Gasol at the 4 then Artest at the 3 make more sense to me. I think Artest makes then a much better team. He is very well rounded and still gets 20 a game.

Agree.. Bynum is scheduled to be there for the first practice with no issues.

I guess LA thinking that they can't start 3 guys and looking to pick up a true SF...

You nailed the top two.

Also in the top 5 in no particular order...

Houston (assuming Yao is there) and Detroit. New Orleans and the Lakers are kind of neck and neck.

PS, I still don't think Bynum is ready and will be a defensive liability for at least another season. He blocks some shots but isn't sound on D yet. Him and Gasol will be very weak in the paint.

Not sure about that... he was not a "liability" last year. Will be a solid contributer. Gasol will be fine as well b/c he will be guarding the weaker player... I guess we will see...

He's not a horrible defender but he's not what I'd call a good defender either. Right now I see him as a statistical defender who gets the numbers on the back of the trading cards but doesn't have the basics down like a Tim Duncan type who can do it all.

Of course he is no Tim Duncan but he is learning and will improve. Just pointing out that he is an adequate defender and not a liability...<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

BTW, he did hold TD to his worst game of the year…

Reports coming out of San Antonio are that Duncan played that one game with a torn ACL which immediately healed after the game with the assistance of a witch doctor.

c'mon...Houston????

A statisical defender? He may not have the footwork of a Duncan but if you watched the games he played in last year he had PRESENCE. Gasol nor Odom has that. You can't quantify that on the back of a trading card.

hahahaha. Jake T. you really dont like the lakers huh. They are top 3 with out Artest. I cant believe you put houston in there. Also Detroit time is up. They wont even be in my top three in the east next year.
Bynum is not a bad defender. But getting rid of Odom and getting Artest would make them championship bound easy. With only one team in the west in there way which is the hornets. The Spurs are getting old and is starting to breakdown. They really need to at least get younger on the bench. Have Barry and finley come of the bench isnt going to work against hornets and lakers next year.

But if there is no injuries lakers are going back to the ship next year again even with out Artest.

Are you fucking kidding me? Out of the top 5?!?! Try No. 2, at the worst.

Do they not get League Pass in Idaho?

They got nearly every single important call against the Spurs for all you guys with short memories. Easily could have lost that series without the refs intervening. Still play no defense and got exposed by the Celtics.
