Ummmm, so the little running line on the bottom of my ESPN screen said Marmol will replace Kerry Wood on the NL All-Star Team. Did anybody from the "committee" or whoever choses such things see his performance yesterday? Or is the committee made up of AL coaches? How did that happen? Wasn't anybody else the runner-up? I'm a Cubs' fan and I can't make heads or tails of it...

I don't get his selection to the All-Star Game either. The guy had a great first 10 weeks, but has seen his ERA go from 2.09 on June 19th to 4.13 in the last three weeks. He's allowed three runs or more in an inning three times out of his last 12 trips to the mound, which is just brutal for a set-up man.

If they wanted a relief pitcher, why not Kuo or Saito from the Dodgers, Buchholz from Colorado, or Cordero from Cincinnati? All are more deserving than Marmol.

When Wood was taken out, they replaced him with the highest vote-getting reliever from the NL by the fans. Apparently Marmol was next in line...

:nohead: uncommen? maybe you should check you non-existent knowledge of baseball, because 5 ER in 1 inning has never happened to him before you moron. He didn't give up more than 5 ER in a single month last year!

So many people who know don't know what they're talking about on this site... not saying he's an All-star this year, but I'd take him as my setup guy any day of the week. His stuff is flat out nasty and tough to hit. He wasn't getting lucky when he was kicking ass. He was kicking ass because he can, just because he's had a few rough weeks where he's been abused in his role for the safety of Kerry Wood means very little.

terrible statement. the guy is filthy. amazing stuff. had a bad month, which a lot of pitchers go through during a long year.

Top 5 RP in the game, so yeah he deserves it. If Cubs fans don't want him I'd gladly have him on the Jays. Hell I'd give ya A.J. Burnett for him.

How about everyone wants to complain about Marmol being Wood's replacement, but nobody wants to talk about the fact that Wood didn't deserve to be there either!

He gave up 5 runs in the fuckin 9th against the GIANTS! Yes The GIANTS! on Sat sorry my bad, only 4 were earned but he still coughed up a huge lead vs a dismal hitting team.. He also had a blowup in Tampa, walked two batters, hit a batter walked in a run all without the tampa hitters even taking a fucking swing! .. granted he was lights out at the beginning of the year, but hes tired... wild at times and will cost the Cubs bigtime in the second half... mark my words.. as a cubs fan this will get ugreee

Just to clarify/fortify my position a little, I am not saying at all I don't want him on the team. But in the whole NL, there wasn't someone better over he past 2 months who perhaps deserved it a bit more? If it comes down to votes, so be it - I am not that familiar with how it works. But his stats over the past 2 months compared to the first 2 months have not be All-Star imo. 9 ER in 13 appearances in June and 8 ER in 7 appearances so far in July vs. 3 in April and 4 in May (28 appearances total). Is he over-used? I see only one time in the past 2 months where he pitched more than 1 inning. I thought that was his job/position - 1 inning of work most games to set-up the closer. Perhaps I have it all wrong and am willing to admit that. But more to the point, and as a Cubs' fan, I just figured there was someone who could have fit the bill as an All-Star a bit more than the Marmol of the last 2 months.

I know they are not relievers, but I would have picked Hamels or Jurrjins over Marmol.
