OT Chicago restaurant suggestions

Am visiting Chicago for only the second time this week. What are your suggestions for good restaurants in the area of Grant Park? I won't have much time to tour around, so please, only suggestions in this area.

I know that Chicago is known for BBQ, which I'm a big fan of. So, suggestions for good BBQ places would be great. I saw one of the Weber places on my last trip but didnt get to visit - are they any good or tourist traps?

BBQ? Not so much. Chicago has great pizza and steak. Gene and Georgetti's is the best steak I have ever had.

Ruth's Chris or Morton's for Steak.

Lawry's has the BEST Prime Rib out there.

Pizzaria Due or Uno for great chicago sytle Deep dish, a little further down the road is Lou Malnottis, also top drawer deep dish pizza.

Check out the Billy Goat tavern under Michigan ave for a great burger and cool atmosphere, made famous by the SNL skit, "Cheezburga, cheezburga, Chips, no fries.."

Great BBQ at Millers pub, right on Wabash, VERY close to grant park, one black west of Michigan Ave. Carson's ribs on Wells is also excellent.

This is a excellent layout for some stops in Chicago. Maybe throw in a trip to wrigley town just for some beer and get on the piece of shit Ltrain and you'll have your Chicago trip all but wrapped up. Sounds like Brock has seen the finer points that Chicago culinary has to offer.

they are the best, i don't know of any better, and i've tried em all.

Gibson's, Smith & wollensky are a joke compared.

agreed. as a local, here are the spots i like.

steak - gibson's or the chicago chop house, carmine's if you want an italian steakhouse. harry carey's is a bit touristy, but was recently voted the best steakhouse in chicago.

burgers - i agree with the billie goat suggestion. it's a great lunch spot, very casual. park grill is a fancier place but they have a great burger and are located right in millenium park (pretty much grant park)

fish - bob chins on the river is famous, and lives up to the hype. it's a chain though so maybe try something like catch 35.

pizza - pizzaria uno, stuffed crust.

bbq - not really a chicago thing these days, but carsons ribs are famous in the state. my favorite ribs places are a little further north and probably too far for you to go.

i'd be happy to give some more suggestions if you really know what you want, or don't mind taking a 5-10 minute cab ride. also, some places are better for people in the 25-40 age range and some for the 50+.

you can't go wrong eating anywhere in the city... just stay away from the whole foods in Lincoln Park and you should be fine

even the bars have decent to great bar food.
the seafood isn't something to brag about.. but theres a few places that fly in sole from overseas.. Nicks Fish Market is hands down the place to go

Ya don't really need a steakhouse or a forty dollar place to enjoy chicago food..
If you get wasted you must go to the Weiner Circle on N. Clark on your way back from Wrigley.. dont order any ketchup and give that bitch behind the counter hell.. tell that dirty **** behind the counter how it is.. def an experience not to miss..

Try Millers Pub on Wabash for their famous canadian baby back ribs, its excellent, as is Carson's ribs on Wells.

chicago IS known for hotdogs and polish sausage. i'd stay far away from the weiner circle if you are over about age 23. it's one of those plces that is "cool" to see in "college", but the dogs are average and it's all a big drunk show in there.

i don't know of any great dog spots in the loop (grant park area), but maybe brock can help out here. his reccomendations have been pretty good so far.

p.s. don't put ketchup on your dog if you are in chicago. everyone will look at you like you're crazy.

Johnnies Beef on North Ave... that guy in all the pictures at Als, who's name is not Al, really owns the joint =0) Good beef but not the best...
