...whining about too many white guys in the home run contest AND OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T KNOW THE RULES THAT APPLY TO SELECTIONS. I've always thought Reilly is the most over-rated columnist, and it did not take him long to become the most over-rated commentator.

he also started this rant when morneau was up, saying he shouldn't have been added over the hispanic players...

naturally, morneau wins the derby, but of course no apology from reilly

Rick Reilly is Garbage. He was trying to stir things up.

There is no doubt in my mind. Why say the stuff he did.

I saw Reilly this past weekend at the Celebrity golf tournament in Tahoe and he honestly thinks he is the (greatest thing since sliced bread). He was rude to a few spectators and then this garbage he says last night.

I am NOT a Rick Reilly Fan....

I always loved reading him but ESPN contract has destroyed him. Worst commentator ever, just making off the wall comments about whites in the HR derby and that it was a terrible night to be an atheist because of Josh Hamilton having a sick derby- wtf was he rambling about.

Rick Reilly should never be allowed to do commentating again.

His ego has grown too large. He'll chime in with petty bullshit all day long and all I'm left doing is wondering how on earth this guy has a job.

Bringing up religion, the atheist comment, the over analyzing of the "71 year old arm" on Hamilton's pitcher..

It's just too much.

Fuck ESPN.

i thought it was a courageous thing to say, and he didn't make a big deal out of it he just stated the facts - in an extremely diverse league where caucasian's may even be a minority it was surprising to see nothing but white boys in there

if white people were noticing it, imagine the conversations that non-whites had - kinda stupid of MLB, too, it would seem putting a japanese and latin player in it would dramatically increase international ratings, but what do i know...

they are lucky Josh saved the day -- if it werent for him, it would have been a boring derby and we likely would have heard more of this discussion

CrazyKind:

It was a stupid thing to say of Reilly.

1st of all a number of guys were invited to the Derby and declined to participate (Vlad Guerrero,A-Rod,Ryan Howard).

So Mr. Reilly really needs to get his facts straight before he says all this "garbage" on national TV.

Reilly was wrong.

It's that simple.

There is no prejudice in who is invited to participate in the home run derby.

If it were nothing but white guys in the derby for like a few years straight, I can understand him making the comment.

But one year? It was obviously an anomaly. I think the fans are smart enough to know that. Does he really think the fans don't know that AROD, Manny, Ortiz, Vlad, Howard are still the best power hitters in the game?
