Without Tiger Woods in it, the Field at +500 would probably be my first choice..I can easily see some unknown or little known European winning it this year...I guess my second choice would be Lee Westwood at +1200 if he can repeat his U.S.Open performance.

SOUTHPORT, England -- Defending British Open champion Padraig Harrington has an ailing right wrist. The injury has forced him to cut back on a practice round and raised questions about whether he'll be able to tee it up. Harrington intends to play "as long as I don't re-injure it," he said Tuesday outside the clubhouse at Royal Birkdale.

The Irishman sustained the injury Saturday while hitting into an "impact bag." After skipping a few days of practice, he decided to test out his wrist. Harrington made it through the first nine holes, but said the wrist felt "tingly." On the back nine, he just chipped and putted after getting checked out by a doctor.

Harrington won his first major championship a year ago, beating Sergio Garcia in a playoff at Carnoustie.

Tiger Woods's hiatus from the British Open, an event he has won three times, is fueling one thing: betting.

Because Woods has been listed as the favorite in every British Open since 1997, his absence has increased the chances for others to win. Consequently, European bookmakers are reporting a bump in wagering.

``We like to think it will be the biggest Open for a long time in terms of betting,'' said Rupert Adams, a spokesman for U.K. bookmaker William Hill Plc.

A total of 35 million pounds ($70.1 million) is expected to be bet on the British Open in the U.K, up from 24 million pounds in 2007, according to William Hill.

Woods's dominance turned away smaller bettors looking to profit on less-likely challengers, Adams said.

`No Worries'

``Tiger Woods is fantastic for people who can afford large bets, but smaller-stake punters had been put off in the past,'' Adams said. ``For once, they're going to be able to watch without having to worry about Woods.''
