Kinsler was safe at 2nd on the steal. Would have scored on the Drew single.

Navarro slid under the tag at home. Umpire in terrible position for the call.

AL has given this game away though. Bases loaded nobody out in the 9th and couldn't get the job done. NL wins it here in the 12th for sure.

The play at home would be called out 100% of the time. The play at 2nd could have been called safe, since he did miss him, and fielder was out in front of the bag. But if the ball beats you and the fielder is in good position, you are always out. That's what people who want replay don't understand. If you actually had to be tagged out by the technical rule, very few runners would ever be out. That's hard to do, and is why the rule is enforced the way it is.

This home plate umpire was absolutely awful. He did a horrible job on balls and strikes and blew the call on Navarro in the 11th ionning. Navarro clearly slid under the tag and the main reason he got that call other than his obvious incompetence is that he was totally out of position as the person who started the thread mentioned.

You would be the one that's incompetent as far as umpiring goes.

As IndiansK6 so astutely pointed out, he was in a horrible position to make that call. It's pretty tough to get the call right when you're standing in another zip code when you try to make the call. I'm amazed he didn't jack off that last play at the plate. His strike zone is also all over the place. This guy is a bad umpire. Plain and simple.

Illini- Please tell me you don't umpire.

The second call was atrocious.

When the tag is on the upper thigh and everything from the knee down is lying on home plate, he's NOT OUT, Blue.

I call Nonsense on this entire post, based on my own eight years of umpiring from Pony League to Mens Amateur. And yes ILLINI, I know you've called plenty of games yourself.

The "phantom touch" of second base while turning a double play is about the only such gimme allowed to professional defenses and it's only possible due to it being a Force out.

I will acknowledge I've seen more calls in past couple years at MLB level where umps are signaling OUT on a thigh level tag when the foot/calf is CLEARLY on the base. But it's an egregious dereliction of duty that could be easily overcome by simply making the correct call, thereby reinforcing the need for the defender to tag below the knee on feet-first slides.

I personally don't think the umpire in the Navarro slide was too badly out of position. It wouldn't have hurt had he been a couple steps to his own left, but he can't go much further without risking the throw getting past the catcher and hitting him.

While a live ball hitting an umpire remains in play, it's something that is best avoided at all possible costs.

IndiansK6 and you can criticize all you want. You both obviously know nothing about umpiring, and it's fine if you want to think the way you do. I'm just telling you that although I don't know much, I do know a lot about umpiring, and he was neither out of position, nor made the wrong call. Was he technically safe by the rulebook? Yes. So what? That isn't the way that the tag rule is enforced. If the ball beats you and the fielder is in good position, you're out. Period. I'm surprised that the casual fan hasn't learned this by now. He is out on that play 1,000 times out of 1,000. And there wasn't a single argument. Call him safe, and you have a huge mess that you have to try to climb out of.

He isn't a great ball-strike umpire, though.

With all due respect, the umpires at Pony League and Men's amateur are almost all bottom of the barrel umpires. Maybe you were the exception, but you're wrong here. At high level baseball, you'd have an ejection every time you tried to pull that shit. You'd learn pretty quickly that if the ball beats you, and the fielder has good position, you're out. And nobody will say a word to you ever, if you call him out. Except for maybe the internet forum posters that don't know jack shit about how to umpire.

Hate when people say stuff like " Would have scored on the Drew single" whole at bat would have been different if he was on second, could have been a homer, could have still been a single, or could have been a K

respectfully disagree.

No need to tell my how to umpire as I have been doing it for 4 or 5 years. The umpire missed the call on 2nd plain and simple. Was never tagged. Big deal, that happens.

The umpire missed the call at home also.

Illini I never said these were blatantly missed calls, but missed nonetheless.

- I simply put that the umpire was behind the catcher and therefore didn't have a good view to see the slide. If you argue that then you are doing that just for the sake or arguing.

Was just making a point that the play at 2nd was a huge miss. Runner on 2nd nobody out and one of the fastest players in the lineup.
