This movie has all the hype in the world and I'm thinking it delivers. It is suppose to be near perfection. First one was the best superhero movie I've seen.

I'm going to pickup my tix in about an hour. Already paid for them, they're just waiting at Will Call. I don't want to wait in line tonight. :)

my theater already blocked 8 screens for a midnight showing, and 7 of them have been sold out. The hype and reviews around this film are insane.

The Dark Knight has already sold out more than 700 performances from coast to coast

The Dark Knight Sells Out

by Lauren Barbato | Published July 16, 2008

Though the bat doesn’t officially fly out of the cave and into theaters nationwide until July 18th at 12:01 a.m., the Caped Crusader is already striking up a storm at the box office. MovieTickets.com reported that Christopher Nolan’s long awaited The Dark Knight has already sold out more than 700 performances from coast to coast—more than 270 of these performances are in Los Angeles and New York City alone.
The Dark Knight continues to gain momentum through online ticket sales, outselling several of MovieTickets.com’s Top-10 Performing Films of All-Time. At the same point in their sales cycles, The Dark Knight has sold more than three times as many advance tickets as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, more than twice as many as Spider-Man 3 and almost twice as many as The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. As tickets become scarce among the 1,300 midnight showings listed on MovieTickets.com, that opening weekend prediction of $130+ million is becoming closer to a reality.
According to a recent MovieTickets.com survey, the Batman franchise that was reinvented by director Nolan and acclaimed actor Christian Bale has garnered a loyal fan base among young adults: 98 percent of 18 to 24 year olds polled expressed interest in seeing the film during its opening weekend, followed by 92 percent of 25 to 32 year olds. In addition, 86 percent of males and 76 percent of females claimed they intend to see the film this coming weekend. Many attribute the fiercely increasing hype surrounding The Dark Knight to the untimely death of Heath Ledger this past January. Ledger’s legacy continues to stir curiosity among moviegoers over his turn as The Joker, an already iconic role that may possibly be Ledger’s finest performance.

I've heard this argument but I think its overrated. The movie is still PG-13 and bottom line I think more people in general want to see this. Same argument was made for 300 but it somehow managed a huge opening despite being rated R.

The teenagers to 30's bunch surely is more interested in a "dark" Batman movie rather than a PG friendly Spiderman movie. Plus its likely more women will be interested with the Ledger factor.

The pre-sales are simply ridiculous. I'm looking at close to 70 mill for Friday, that should be enough to get by 150.

Knight' Fandango Stats
Posted by: cwalton on July 17, 2008

For all of you Bat fans curious to know (and here's hoping you got your tickets already if you're planning to see it tonight), below are some of the stats we're seeing...
darkknightjoker1.jpg
*TDK will debut with nearly 3,000 midnight performances nationwide
*So far, hundreds of showtimes are already sold out throughout the weekend
*On Fandango, TDK is taking in more than 90% of weekly ticket sales
*According to our poll, 38% of DK fans plan to take off a few hours or the entire day off tomorrow

To which we say, why not? This is one of the rare cases where the movie, IMHO, lives up to the hype. Some may quibble about the last few minutes, or the whole "oppresive" atmosphere, but hey, that's why it's called The Dark Knight. Everyone else, which will be nearly everyone, will be blown away by Heath Ledger's unforgettable performance, the A-list acting down the line, the unbelievable action sequences (thankfully most rendered without CGI), and the truly epic ambitions of Nolan's, I'll call it, "masterpiece." See it in IMAX if you can. But trust me, see it.

I doubt a book has the o/u at 80.

If it was 80 it should read something like this;

Over 80 mill > -9999999999999999999999999999999
Under 80 mill > +9999999999999999999999999999999

DSI took the Dark Knight prop down, damn, last night the o/u was 80 mil and the X-File movie was 18 mil.
Now the X-File movie is 15 mil.

As for the opening weekend receipt odds (the film actually opens Thursday July 17), the biggest payout for gamblers would come if the film takes in between $120,000,001 and $130,000,000. A $10 bet pays $55. A $100 bet pays $550 at Bookmaker.com.
Oddsmakers have the film reeling in between $80,000,001 and $100,000,000 with odds just short of 2/1.

The Dark Knight Has Already Broken One Record - Theater Counts!

July 17, 2008
by Alex Billington

Hollywood Reporter has announced that Warner Brothers is dropping The Dark Knight into 4,366 theaters this weekend, officially setting a new record. Previously, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End held the theater count record, playing in 4,362 theaters last May and earning $114.7 million at the box office in its opening weekend. Now The Dark Knight has even surpassed that which means it definitely has the potential to set some earnings records. Incredibly positive buzz has put this film into its final epic tail spin and all eyes will be watching this weekend as it hopefully sweeps its way through the box office, shattering records left and right. And with this announcement, I'm pretty damn sure most people are going to be absolutely shocked by the massive records that this masterpiece will set.
I don't like arguing about box office potential, but now this makes that $200 million mark all the more realistic. In addition to the 4,366 domestic theaters that The Dark Knight is playing on starting on Friday, July 18th, they also mention that double and triple screenings and midnight shows mean that the film will play on 9,200 screens! Included in this are 94 IMAX screens (the only way to truly see the film). Warner Brothers has been battling for spots in theaters around the country, but the excitement for this film has guaranteed them an incredible record-setting number of theaters. And of course we all know that it's already been selling out in advance for weeks. I think we're in for one hell of an exciting weekend. If you don't already have your tickets, you're probably out of luck. But if you do, then I'll see you in theaters! Just make sure you remember where you were when The Dark Knight shattered all the box office records!

The Dark Knight Selling All The Way Through 6AM!

July 9, 2008
by Alex Billington

Recent reports from tickets website Fandango.com have noted that various movie theaters across the country are adding 3AM and 6AM showings of The Dark Knight because it's already selling out so quickly. Didn't I tell everyone to watch out? They report that there are over 1500 showings between midnight at 6AM across the country. Although most of the 3AM and 6AM shows aren't going to sell out, this definitely means The Dark Knight is barreling towards breaking some big records next weekend. I knew this was coming, but for those who didn't, now is your chance to really get a feel for how big The Dark Knight is going to be. This already tops off the previous announcement that Dark Knight had sold eight times as many tickets as Spider-Man 3 at that time. Excited yet?
Before this news gets blown out of proportion, just because 3AM and 6AM shows have been added, they're probably not going to sell out. It's just a question of money: can the theater sell enough tickets to make enough money to cover the staff needed to man the place throughout the night. I remember Spider-Man 2 had 24 hour opening days, where they would run the film non-stop from midnight to midnight (and a friend of mine went to every single showing). This just means The Dark Knight is going to have a huge opening weekend - but we already knew that right? This is my favorite statistic from Fandango's reports: 38% say that they intend to take off a few hours or the entire day from work on Friday as a result of seeing the movie the night before. The Dark Knight is going to have one hell of an epic opening weekend.

I was thinking the same thing. I guess it was hard. Indiana jones one weekend, Hancock another weekend. But I think hellboy 2 will be outstanding.

Terminator Salvation Teaser Trailer - What Do You Think?

Posted on Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 at 11:38 am by: Peter Sciretta

The teaser trailer for Terminator: Salvation will be attached to The Dark Knight this Friday. But you don’t have to wait until Friday to see it! I think we are going to be very surprised by this film. That last shot with the T-100 is epic. This is definitely one of those trailers that you need to watch a couple times to fully take in all the slivers of footage. Tell me what you think in the comments below.
