I love Samsungs if you are going with an LCD... the newer Sonys have a terrible contrast ratio (2,500:1) and the picture quality just doesn't match up. I sell LGs, Sharps, Toshibas, Sonys, Samsungs, etc and the best quality by far in terms of reliability and performance has been the Samsungs...

just my 2 cents...

here is one i would consider, i know its $200 over your price range, but this isnt a sale price so you might be able to find this around 1K somewhere

Shane is right. That contrast ratio is every bit as important as having full 1080p.

Should really shoot for at least 10,000:1 it makes a HUGE difference.

i bought the Philips 1080p for 999 from costco

thats probably a good place to buy from because if you dont like it you can return it.

not sure what they have on sale at present though.

I also have a Panasonic 720p plasma those are excellent as well.

the difference being that LCD is better in well lit rooms/Plasma better for dark rooms and movies.

goodluck its a great time to get these type of things price wise.

What has been the word on their power supply issue? did they fix it? I had my PS go 2 days after I bought my 42" LG. The service tech replaced the whole Mother Board for me.
