Blanton was scheduled to pitch against Mussina tomorrow night, any word yet on who will start for oakland now? Also I think good pick up for Philly change of scenery will help Blanton

I don't expect much from Blanton. Another B type pitcher that should help them, but not enough to win a World Series. I'm just glad they didn't deal Carrasco. I think he is horrible fit for the Phillies ballpark too.

Blanton is better than every starting pitcher except Hamels.

I don't know if that is what you meant, but that is a damn good trio of pitchers to throw out for a series.

What the hell are you so upset about? Geren is going to call up Dan Meyer or Gio Gonzalez. Both better than Blanton. Calm the FUCK down and actually pay attention to your team. Oh wait... you are in IOWA! This was a very good trade, Beane is a genius and has brought some VERY VERY good young talent to this team for a fraction of the price he was dealing to his "studs". The A's are a better team because of this trade.

Well LB, first off I have forgotten more about the Oakland A's that will you ever know about this team. Second off why are knocking Iowa? I have been to California to see the A's play three different times and I would not live there for anything.

So you think Meyer and Gonzalez are better than Blanton. Meyers ERA is OVER 5.00 and Gonzo's is 4.34. Now mind you this is against AAA batters.

I have always been a big fan of Billy Beane and I know it is for the future, but getting rid of Harden and Blanton when you actually have a shot (I know, a long shot) at making the playoffs this year is disheartening.

I have been to over 500 Oakland A's games in my life. So trust me when I say that I have my finger on this teams pulse. I'm not a long distance fan. Harden is the biggest injury risk in the game almost, and Blanton wasn't helping us get anywhere. We got 10 times what those two are worth in prospects from teams trying to make a push this year. The A's are a very good young team that is going to be primed and have the cash to make a run at winning 3-4 rings here in the next few years. Their AAA is getting stocked with guys that will soon be ready to make a serious impact, and Billy is counting his dollars so he can make sure the A's leave Oakland one of the best teams in MLB. I think you need to look at the bigger picture. They had no shot up against the offensive juggernauts this year (CHC, MIL, PHI) and one of those three will be in the WS.

i trust Billy and from what I read about their prospects and minor league system you can only think this team will be heard from in the yrs to come. Blanton nothing special and Harden lives on the DL.

This really makes me wonder if you really know this team??? Blanton is never going to lead your team anywhere. Gonzalez and Meyer are still learning to pitch. They have stuff that Blanton will never be able to touch. I would rather have them up gaining experience now then giving a half ass shot at winning a division title that your almost certainly not going to win. You make it sound like Blanton was a front line starter?

Wow, Billy Beane ass-raped another NL team. Getting the #2 (Cardenas) and #4 (Outman) for Blanton. Look at Blanton career numbers and there is a 4.00 era and a slightly better than .500 win %.
Goes to show you pitching is always overrated for 2nd half playoff pushes.

Remember the 2 greatest ripoffs for 2nd half pitching:

Astros trade Larry Anderson to Red Sox for some guy named Jeff Bagwell !

Braves trade Doyle Alexander to Tigers for a no-name John Smoltz !

Need I say more, marginal pitchers for 2 future hall of famers. I am not saying these kids are the next Bagwell/Smoltz but Joe Blanton is not carrying the Phillies to a pennant.

Blanton will not have a big impact. frankly he isnt even a number 2 guy in a rotation.

going to the NL might help since the quality of hitting is less, but hes going to a hitter friendly park, and his era should go up.

the phillies didnt want harden because of the injury risk i understand that, but honestly , how much more would they have had to give up to get sabathia who is a flat out stud?

this deal helps them no doubt because they cant keep running eaton out there every 5th day, but frankly they went the cheaper route, and i dont think blanton is a 1 or a 2 in a rotation

Beane is a genius..getting rid of Blanton makes room for Gio Gonzalez and getting Cardenas from the Phils was stealing...Cardenas's best position is 2B and Utley will always be in the way....

The only reason I can see A's fans being upset about this trade is because they traded Blanton in a year where he hasn't been his best. The thing is, with the package of prospects they acquired, you'd think he was pitching like he did last season.

Great trade for the A's, both teams for that matter.
