DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - An internal affairs report says a Daytona Beach police officer demanded free coffee and tea from a Starbucks and threatened employees with slower emergency response times if they refused.

Lt. Major Garvin, a 15-year veteran, was fired July 8. According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Chief Mike Chitwood says Garvin recently failed a polygraph test that he insisted on taking.
The coffeehouse's employees claim that since June 2007, Garvin had visited the store as many as six times a night while on duty. Besides demanding free drinks, workers complained that Garvin also cut in front of paying customers.
A telephone listing for Garvin could not be found.

Why demand? They will usually give it free to police who come in. Dumbass was getting greedy is probably why.

[FONT=&quot]What a great job of serving the community, extorting coffee! This jackass received what he deserved; hopefully his pension will be taken as well due this “unbecoming conduct”. What makes this even worse was that fact that he was not just a simple patrolman, but an even simpler lieutenant major. This type of behavior is why people have such a bad impression of police. Studies have shown that local police officers have a lower IQ than most other professions with an equivalent 75K+ salary. On the federal level, law enforcement intelligence ranks quite high, however agencies such as the FBI, DEA, CBP, and US Marshals only hire intelligent applicants.

Police reject candidate for being too intelligent</big> A US man has been rejected in his bid to become a police officer for scoring too high on an intelligence test.
Robert Jordan, a 49-year-old college graduate, took an exam to join the New London police, in Connecticut, in 1996 and scored 33 points, the equivalent of an IQ of 125.
But New London police interviewed only candidates who scored 20 to 27, on the theory that those who scored too high could get bored with police work and leave soon after undergoing costly training.
Mr Jordan launched a federal lawsuit against the city, but lost.
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York upheld a lower court's decision that the city did not discriminate against Mr Jordan because the same standards were applied to everyone who took the test.
He said: "This kind of puts an official face on discrimination in America against people of a certain class. I maintain you have no more control over your basic intelligence than your eye color or your gender or anything else."
He said he does not plan to take any further legal action and has worked as a prison guard since he took the test.
The average score nationally for police officers is 21 to 22, the equivalent of an IQ of 104, or just a little above average.

Refusing to hire people whom are "too intelligent" due to possible boredom is not uncommon; a lot of industries engage in this practice.

Stupid is the Operative Word.

Reminds me of a similar situation. Live in a small historic area and the homeowner's decided to get a rent a cop for the area .:nohead: We pay a small fee about one dollar a day , which i didn't want to do but about 70% of the people did and they received a small sign to put in their front yard. I feel like my taxes already pay for this but went ahead and payed. I didn't like having the sign in my flower bed so i removed it. This idiot comes to the door and insinuated that my house may not get the same attention since i removed my sign.I told him to get the hell of my porch and i would report him. it cost him his second job and i couldn't be more happy. I have seen him in the area two or three times since and feel like i have to really watch my driving
