"These guys are good" is the biggest lie in sports. You can see why Tiger dominates now.

There is no way Tiger would have been this successful in the Nicklaus, Palmer era.

"The Open" is right. ITs the REAL major in golf. The US open was a toilet this year, they kissed Tigers ass so he would win for sure. And the MAsters is a rightwing political organization that is a mickey mouse driver wedge course.

ITs nice to see 5 over win, its how real golf is suppose to be. Americans has no idea what it is.

Real golf? Well then the British Open hasn't been real because the winner has been under par in 36 of the last 38 open championships. Historically, the scores are lower (more under par) in the British than in the US Open.

Do you always have to say the opposite of the truth?

I think the competition Tiger has to face is much more difficult. Back in that era there were a few guys that were far ahead of everyone else, when nowadays there is only Tiger that is in a class by himself, but there are always no names that step up with a good performance every tournament.

Norman is playing great through three rounds, but Tiger is still the best of all time by a pretty wide margin. At least in my opinion he is.

I said this year not the last 38 years. The usopen is most years good. This year the USGA butchered it up. I was at Torrey Pines and I told Judy Rankin how miserable it was.

So we have only 1 real major this year. Its not in this country. IT is over there.

No you said it is THE real major in golf. Not just this one year, which by the way, was won at -1, not all that far off. And you said Americans had no idea what real golf is. If you look at just about every year, the real golf is at the US Open, not the British Open. Tiger made a mockery of the British at -14 and -18.

your kidding right. :think2:

No, I'm not.
Let's see how many tourney's Tiger would have won 35 years ago while facing Lee Trevino, Jack Nicklaus, Arnie Palmer, Johnny Miller, Hale Irwin, Gary Player................. on a weekly basis.

Oh, one more thing, Tiger would have to use 1970's equiptment.

i can't say how tiger would do in the nickalaus era but the gap between jack and arnie was much less than Tiger and #2. That tells me that if Jack had weaker competition his win totals would be higher. (probably best explained by all his #2s)

Cant we all just enjoy this nice run by Norman?

Rail, why so much hate for the US and Tiger? I'm not American, but they are clearly the best nation in the world athletics wise, and Tiger is the greatest golfer I've ever seen, possibly even the greatest athlete period.

I will say the British Open is the best major though IMO. When the weather is going crazy like it has this weekend it's the best tournament to watch.

How do you know Tiger isnt just that much better then everyone. It is very possible guys like Phil, Ernie, Vijay, etc were just as good as the guys you listed. It is just that Tiger is that much better then Nicklaus was.

You can't just look at it like that though. Was the gap between #1 and #2 smaller back then? Of coarse, but instead of saying it's because of a weak field maybe it's because Tiger is just that damn good. I don't see the point in knocking Tiger just because he is so much better than everybody.

The fact is by all means it is so much harder to dominate now than in the 70's. The reason is obvious. The game is open to so many more people that it used to be, it is much more international and there are just more people living now. All of that means more competition. Plus the information is there for anyone to use with swing analysis, supplements, whatever.

The fact that we do have the one dominant person is simply a testament to his apparently difficult to comprehend greatness.

Nicklaus and Palmer wouldn't have had to face Tiger because he wouldn't have been allowed on the course except as a caddy if he was lucky.

And likewise, it will probably be even tougher to dominate 10 years, 20 years, etc. from now.
