The Giants have agreed to trade their disgruntled tight end to the New Orleans Saints for a second-round pick and a fifth-round pick, FOXSports.com has learned. The deal is pending league approval, according to a league source. Shockey must also pass a physical.
The compensation is the same the Saints offered New York back in April prior and during to the draft ... and it was turned down.
The move comes one day after Jason Taylor was traded from Miami to New York's NFC East rivals in Washington. According to a report on SI.com, the Giants had held discussions about a three-team trade in which they would have ended up with Taylor, the Saints would have landed Shockey and the Dolphins would have received a pair of draft picks.
The emergence of rookie Kevin Boss during the Giants' improbable Super Bowl run — a stretch Shockey missed due to a broken leg — made Shockey expendable. Boss started six games after Shockey's injury (two regular season and all four during the Giants' postseason run), making nine catches for 140 yards and a TD. <STYLE>.moreTeamsDiv { position:relative; float:right; padding-right:10px;}.moreTeamsHdr { background-image:url(/fe/img/Story/moreTeamsOn_header.gif); background-repeat:repeat-x; background-position:top; height:35px; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; padding-top:4px; padding-left:4px; font-weight:bold;}.moreTeamsLinks a:link, .moreTeamsLinks a:visited { color:#1266a4; text-decoration:none; padding-top:4px; padding-left:4px; padding-right:4px; padding-bottom:4px;}.moreTeamsLinks a:hover { text-decoration:underline;}.moreTeamLinks { font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-decoration:none;}.storyPoll { padding-bottom: 5px; float:right;}</STYLE>

Shockey's attitude made the move somewhat necessary as the Giants sought to avoid distractions from their bid to repeat as Super Bowl champions.
During the team's recent minicamp, Shockey reportedly engaged in a shouting match with GM Jerry Reese, just the latest controversy involving the outspoken former first-round pick out of the University of Miami.
Shockey's absence in Phoenix during the Super Bowl was conspicuous to say the least. According to some reports, one of the many sources of Shockey's displeasure with the team was that he was not allowed to stand on the team's sidelines during the game. In the past, Shockey also had less-than-complimentary things to say about his quarterback, Eli Manning. In fact, many have theorized that Manning's transformation from a middle-of-the-pack quarterback to a Super Bowl MVP was facilitated by Shockey's absence.

Saints just got even better on offense. If the defense shows up, they may be dangerous.

All I know is Saints are playoff-bound after adding Jonathan Vilma and Sedrick Ellis on defense, and now Shockey on offense. Three huge acquisitions to a team that already had plenty of talent.

shockey is as OVER RATED as they come and a cancer on top of that.

Regardless of how overrated Shockey is, in an extremely pass-happy offense, he is a huge upgrade over Eric Johnson as far as speed and pass-catching ability is concerned. Johnson is a tight end who was in a pass-first offense and had 2 TD receptions all season last year. Shockey will have 2 TD games with Brees.

Guess Farve can pay someone during the exhibition season to do a Nancy Kerrigan job on Brees and force Saints hand since they are in an obvious win now mode.

You forget that the Saints have a complete Moron as a head Coach.. Saints are no better now then last year.. 8 wins is a stretch....

I really don't think this team is that good. Brees is a top 10 QB, but their running game is overrated as Bush can't run through tackles and McAllister can't go a season without getting hurt. They have average receivers, and could use some help on the OL. This team only seems strong because they are flashy and the public loves that. Their defense is in the bottom 10 in the league IMO as they still have a terrible secondary, and although I LOVE Ellis, they didn't need a DT. That position was probably their strength on defense last year. Vilma is a talented LB, but he also has injury issues.

I just don't see this team making the playoffs. I think they battle for second in the division with the Bucs, and most likely come third, only ahead of the Falcons.
