I'd prefer photos and little purple arrows and detailed instructions... if I was of a mind to fuck around under the hood,Jake. I do it on occasion, but I'm no pro mechanic.

Car dealerships are wicked, Jake !

they want like $50 labor to change the cabin air filter in a CR-V ( and leave the car there all day). Took me about 15 minutes to interpret the instructions. I could change it again in 90 seconds, since I know what to do, now ! The dude writing up the work order could do it in the time it takes to write it up, if he wanted to.

There is a forum for whatever car you have, and people there that will tell you how to do whatever you want to do, from simple shit to real mechanic stuff, much like we will advise a newbie on betting.

Thanks for the advice Doug.

I bought a 1995 4Runner 3 years ago thinking it would be reliable since it's a Toyota. I found through some online forum that the 1995 trucks had a lot of problems with head gaskets. This was after I had mine replaced. I also found out that they continued having problems even after having the head gasket replaced so I got rid of mine.

In my new truck I had the "maintenance" light come on. Not only did I find out that it came on every 4,000 miles to remind you of an oil change but I also found out how to turn it off myself.

There are thousands of people that have that 4-Runner, they will tell you straight, no reason not to, they ain't working for Toyota. Any problem that is kicking your ass, somebody else had the same problem, and will be glad to help you.

Car owners are very generous in helping another owner of the same model.
