GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Brett Favre will be reinstated and added to the Packers' active roster Monday. And at that point, it looks like the fun will start.

Team president Mark Murphy said in a statement Sunday that the team has a specific plan with Favre in camp that it won't reveal until Monday, but sources told ESPN's Wendi Nix that coach Mike McCarthy will announce he's holding an open competition for the starting quarterback position.

I am just wondering why they went through all that crap then change there mind now...

Should have just let him compete for the job and skipped all the crap...

Aaron Rodgers will start at the QB position for Green Bay.

Whatever happens here will decide one of my week 1 bets. Rodgers starts I go with GB -2.5. Favre starts give me Minny +4.5/5.

Now there saying the coach never said he Favre would be the back-up if he came back that Aaron was the starter now i have read several articles of him saying that.

So I would be willing to bet come game time Favre will be starting when the season starts.

Brett Favre is still healthy and got a arm to compete or out throw any QB alive.

But I think he should have left Green Bay yrs ago. He had and still has to much talent. JMHO

Coaches and General Managers don't like to be shown up...although Favre is talented and maybe has another season in him, I think he gets traded to another team, and real soon....

With that logic, your assuming Favre will agree to the trade then , because thats the only way it happens

Brett still has a chance to go down as the greatest qb of all-time, he needs another super bowl win though in order to achieve that.

If he plays another 2 years he can break all joe montanta's play-off records, get over 500 touchdown passes, and if he tops that with a 2nd super bowl, i think he vaults to #1.

So he would basically retire with every regular season and post season record and 2 titles. Long shot but not impossible.

No way. The guy has had a great career, but he's not even top 5 of all time, possibly not even top 10. I like him (although this shit is starting to annoy me), but you can not call him the greatest ever when he's blown the season for his team twice in the playoffs with INT's and has thrown more picks in his career than any other QB in history. He's too careless with the football and he costs his team some games because of it. A QB like that can never be considered the best of all time IMO.

The competition for the starting job is a charade; they'll judge Rogers to be the better QB (rightly or wrongly) and then cut or trade Favre.

Citing an NFL executive with "close ties to clubs in the NFC North," the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that the Packers called the Vikings about Brett Favre on Friday to let them know Favre is available in a trade.

You knew this wasn't the end. The Journal-Sentinel believes Favre's arrival at camp is the first step towards a trade. "They’ve kind of said through one of their guys that if Favre did report they would potentially trade him within the division," the unnamed executive says. Talks between the Vikings and Packers aren't substantive yet, however, and the executive doesn't think Minnesota would give up more than a fourth- or fifth-round pick. Still, reports like this aren't going away until Favre is in another uniform. Aug. 4 - 12:16 am et
