I didnt see it, but as I understand it. Their goal is to make Dubai a prime tourist location being mindful of the fact the oil will run out there in another 10 years or so.
I really can not picture them being this big in 40 years. There is little to draw anyone there other than the scenery.
Their relegious beliefs and customs just make the place devoid of any serious kind of fun.
I believe the oil will run out in 2010. That is why they are catering to Western money. Any Muslim country catering to Western money must relax their standards a bit which Dubai has done. Alcohol is allowed in hotels for foreigners (I've seen some locals drinking there as well). Prostitution is tolerated as hooker bars are allowed to remain open and are staffed by Chinese and Russian women.
I couldn't understand who would want to visit either Rob as the only thing going for them is the sites like the world's tallest building and the world's most expensive hotel. Dubai has one of the highest heat indexes in the summer so tourism will take a dive then.
However, they have had several Westerners invest in homes on their palm islands just off the coast. And they are getting more and more people going there for honeymoons, both from Europe and Asia.
I've said it before, capitalism is the great peace-maker. We wouldn't think of attacking Japan or Germany again simply because of all the trade we do. It's getting to be the same with the Muslim countries.
