I guess Green Bay decided to not try to win Super Bowl this year

Management can't really convince themselves that this gives them the best chance to win the SB this year, Can they ? Rodgers probably doesn't even make it out of the exhibition season alive. Who cares if Farve had a tough time making up his mind, not exactly the biggest crime ever committed, like some of you make it to be. Once he wanted to play again , Green Bay should have been asking him how fast can you get here. This team won't even make the playoffs with Rodgers. This team is not rebuilding anymore either, so even if they lose their investment in a 1st rd pick for Rodgers, who cares. :think2:

You really think they have a chance at the Super Bowl with Favre there? I don't. The entire NFC East has a better team than Green Bay.

I've heard from some Green Bay fans that have been to the training camp that Rodgers looks better than Favre. Whether he will play better on Sundays is a different thing entirely, but he has all the tools to be successful.

If they can go to the Super Bowl with Favre, they can go with Rodgers. If they falter this year it will not be because of him. Last year was an exception, not the standard for what this team can do. They had a weak schedule and when they played the top team, Dallas, they got beat bad and the only reason they were in it at all was because of Aaron Rodgers.

yes clearly some qb who has played like 2 nfl games gives them as good of a chance as someone who went 13-3 and was the 3rd best qb in the league last year

I'm a Packer season ticket holder and have no doubt that the Packers can win as many games with Rodgers as they would have with Favre. Ted Thompson, while ripped by many of the rubes that pass as Packer fans around here, put together a team of young guys that made Favre look good last year.
They will only get better. You don't need an all-pro quarterback when you have a solid team. Rodgers has a ton more mobility than Favre and can throw the quick short passes that Driver, Jones and Jennings thrived on last year.
Favre distanced himself from his younger teammates last year, often commenting how the game had changed. He didn't even dress in the same lockerroom.
I know for elementary-school football fans, the QB is the thing. But for every Favre "won" for the Packers, he gave two away with interceptions. If Rodgers had been playing against the Giants last year, the Packers would have been in the Super Bowl. You don't have to believe that, but that is the case.
With a solid running game and three quality receivers, the Packers will be just fine on offense. And all the women "fans" can root for Tampa Bay.

We will see Sept. 28th by the way it's looking. Favre vs. Rodgers... "The war to settle the score"
Man, Just remember the way he played when his dad died. He was ever up for a game it will be that one. By week 5 Packer fans will be running Rodgers out of town with pitchforks and torches.

L5Y, USC is 4-0 vs SEC, outscoring them 167-48!!!

Favre threw one TD pass to a wide-open Donald Driver who ran about 70 yards after the catch. That is about all he did. On the game determining interception in OT, he threw to the only receiver that was covered. In the biggest games in the past 10 years, Favre always seemed to throw a horrendous interception or two.
Just watch this season. Just watch. If I'm wrong, I'll be the first to admit it. They won't miss Favre as much as you think.

To any clown that says that GB didnt have a shot to win it with Favre, are you guys following the NFL lately.

They WERE FAVS IN THE NFL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME LAST SEASON!

Every team in the NFC has a shot to go to Superbowl besides the Falcons and Niners.

I cannot believe this coming from a Packers season ticket holder. First of all, how can you say that if Rodgers was starting against the Giants, they would be in the Super Bowl?! The dude has never started a regular season game, let alone a playoffs game.. Tony Romo was a Pro-Bowl QB the last 2 seasons during the regular season game, and he can't win a wild card game, yet you say that Rodgers, with no NFL starts, would have led the Packers to a victory in an NFC championship game.. that is retarded, even if Rodgers has a solid season this year.

I'm sure you remember last season, when Favre single-handedly beat the Broncos in overtime with that ridiculous 70 yard bomb. That is the kind of QB he is/was.. he could beat teams in moments like that by himself. Aaron Rodgers can throw 10 yard outs and hooks, but he has absolutely no touch on his deep throws, and never did at Cal.. he would not have made that throw. Saying he improves the Packers chances of winning is ridiculous.

No one is sold on Rogers... 2 games played over 3 years and has missed significant time each season year b/c of injury.

If Rogers is so good in practice and so impressive why take a QB in the second round this year? Very high pick to waste if Rogers is your man.

Everyone want a lock....take the packers under the season win total for this year. Aaron Rodgers was 7-20 1int in an intersquad game last saturday and most of those were against 2nd and 3rd teamers. Oh...and he was 0-9 at one point which will result in the packers defense being on the field alot. I see this senario alot this next season......packers down by 14 at the half......lost by 28 when they try to rely on rodgers to bring em back.

the nfc is laughing their ass off that gb turned into everyone's btch for this coming season!

Ridiculous? Your post is ridiculous.
Rodgers had an outstanding college career breaking all kinds of school records. His QB Rating at Cal averged 150 the years he started.

As for Favre, yes he did have a good year last year but where was he the 2 previous seasons? Ranked QB...25th in 2006 and 31st in 2005. Get your facts straight...this guy is washed up hanging on for dear life.

1) Because Favre was terrible against the Giants and cost his team the season. No matter how well you thought he played during the season to get them there you cannot deny he cost them the season with a terrible performance and an even worse game losing throw on a simple pass.

2) I remember that game very well being a Broncos fan. I give WAY more credit to whoever was calling the plays than Brett Favre. Most NFL QB's can throw a wide open 50-60 yard pass. It was just a great play call to open up OT with and Jennings is a jet so he was able to get very open. Saying Brett Favre "single-handily" won them that game is stupid.

3) Funny, a simple 10 yard out is what Favre COULDN'T throw against the Giants and it ended up costing his team a chance at the Super Bowl.

4) No, what is ridiculous is that people forget that over the past 3-5 years Favre has been one of the worst QB's in the league and they are writing off a guy with all the tools to be successful. If Rodgers doesn't succeed it is because of the fans, not because he doesn't have the talent. Showing up at TC and yelling bring back brett is not going to help your new starting QB feel comfortable and make him want to be there.

arniesarmy- Very good posts. One of the few posters on this board that actually uses intelligences when discussing the Favre issue. Thank you for adding sensible posts to this otherwise Brett Favre dick-suck-a-thon.

I don't understand what you Rodgers-backers have to defend your opinions. I'm not even a Brett Favre fan, I am just using common logic- if you are playing an NFC championship game, a QB with no career NFL starts does not increase his team's chance of winning over a QB who had a Pro Bowl season and has won Super Bowls before.. it is as simple as that. I am not even talking about the upcoming season, because I agree with what the Packers are doing.

Wow is Ted Thompson here? lol IMHO this is exactly why Favre was not wanted back. McCarthy and Thompson came in with a plan to build the Packers back. They would play out the Farve era while building the nucleus and would be ready for their era when Brett stepped aside.

Last year's success showed them they had the team ready to compete but it was nothing but Brett, Brett, Brett. I really believe they felt he was an impediment to fully installing their system and they wanted his gunslinging style gone.

Retirement was neat and clean and if the team slipped back a bit this season it was explainable ... after all Brett was gone. Now it is not so clean.

Ultimately this move seals the fate of McCarthy and Thompson. If they do not find a way to win in the next couple of years they are not the saviors of the Packers but the destroyers of the Favre era. It was a long time between Lombardi and Favre and Packer fans will not forget.

I do not know about Rodgers. He looked pretty good when he played last year. Still the team took Brohm in the draft so are they even sold on him themselves? Maybe they would have been better off trading Rodgers to the Jets for a 1st or 2nd round pick, making Brett commit for 2 years and working with Brohm as the heir.

We will never know what Brett would have done with GB this year. But we will know what McCarthy can do without Brett. Time will allow us to answer a lot of the questions.
