Well we finally arrived yesterday afternoon. The actual driving part of the trip went as close to perfect as we planned. Thank god for technology (GPS, satellite radio and cell phones). Wouldnt want to do it again but happy I did it once, if that makes any sense.
Had a chance to drive thru Colorado and Utah and it was 100x more mountianous than I thought. I thought it would be a lot of mountains but nothing and I mean it was nothing like I thought it would be. Funny story, I had driven every mile up till we got about 20 minutes before Denver and so my GF said she now wanted to drive cause she was getting tired (not sure that sounds right, LOL). Almost the second you hit Denver the driving becomes very tough. Normally she is a good driver (for a woman, LOL) but she was scared shitless and was holding the wheel in a death grip. One of my dogs was having a really hard time also in the mountains, not completely sure if it hurt her ears or she was just nervous because GF was but the dog was shaking the whole time. I ended up taking back over the wheel about an hour later and drove the rest of the way. It is just highly intense driving and adds to an already stressfull, tiring, venture.
Here is our biggest problem right now. Without going into full details (as I might punch a hole in the screen), 90% of our stuff is still back in Michigan sitting in our home waiting for the moving company to get there. Long story short we dealt with a broker who set this whole arrangement up. The moving company was suppose to show late last week and that never happend, when we would call her she would say I will put a request for this, that and the other and nothing. We couldnt even get a phone call from her. It was long big mess but finally we got ahold of the carrier and they are coming to pick our stuff up tomorrow but it is still around 10 days till we have a lot of our stuff. It is already hard enough trying to adapt to a new enviroment but imagine what it is like without most of your stuff. We basically have just the stuff we needed to drive across the country with. We were stuck between a rock and a hard place with having to leave under these conditons based the fact both of us have scheduled a lot of stuff for this week and had to be out here. As far as firing the broker/moving company, that was huge pain in the ass also. Everytime I would try and play hardball with them and say we wanted our $800 deposit back she would say I will put a request in for that. Ended up calling all around and no one can get there to pick our stuff up for a few more weeks, so were more or less screwed on that end. Bottom line it looks like we have it all lined up now and hopefully we should be good to go (keeping our fingers crossed). Bought a matteress last nite that we didnt need other than for these next 2 weeks and GF is out right now buying other neccessities.
Will add more in a few minutes as I dont feel comfortable with the computer I am using right now.
